Personally, I feel that the theme of the film (Vietnam War + ethnic minorities) does not seem to be focused enough, or not clear enough. But having said that, for the African American group, many things seem to be impossible to speak independently.
In fact (in my opinion) some of the problems encountered by the African-American group in the United States may be the same as the problems in all other countries in the world, which are fundamentally rooted in the contradiction between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. It is a pity that the American people are accustomed (or led) to use ethnic identity as a label to protest the so-called injustice and inequality (we are not saying that the issue of race does not exist, but that it may not be the main contradiction). When people try to solve the problem without understanding the essence of the problem, they often get confused.
The phenomenon that Spike Lee wants to reflect in this film is quite complex and has a certain depth. It is a pity that no one is destined to fully understand a certain social phenomenon, and so is the director himself. So this film is somewhat superficial. However, the story can be told to this extent, it is probably very good.
