Bergman knows nothing about life

Before watching this movie, I had a lot of admiration for Bergman's ability to write scripts. He has been wandering around theological thinking, most of which stemmed from his Catholic learning experience, which made him have such persistence. I always thought he was a really good screenwriter. But when I saw the film, I found that he had to go back and discuss theology, because the film exposed his unfamiliarity with society, just as he was sued by the Swedish government for taxes, he had no concept of human affairs .

Unfortunately, before watching this movie, I watched the Soviet movie "The Wild Wild Goose Flying in the South". The same love story of young people has also become difficult under the changes of social factors, and the same love has been alienated. But no matter from the script to the director to the photography to the editing, this movie was completely crushed by "Flying Wild Goose". Many people may say that "Flying Wild Goose" shows the background theme of war, which of course will increase the dramatic conflict and emotional conflict. However, the montages and long shots of "Flying Wild Goose" were not used to film the war, but all focused on describing the inner feelings of the protagonist.

Perhaps the Scandinavian summer is too short, the summer loves in Bergman's works are always tragic, like illusory dreams fleeting. The biggest difference between movies and reality is that movies end in time, but life continues in boredom, which is why Monica is destined to leave.

Summer with Monika quotes

  • Harry Lund: You see - I've always been so lonely. My mother got sick when I was five. She was sick until she died. I was eight by then. Dad went a bit funny after that. He got all quiet. He and I would sit at home all evening, neither saying a word. We'd just sit there.

Monika Eriksson: I've never been alone. There's so many of us. The brats fight and wreck everything. Dad's always drunk and kicking up a fuss.

  • Monika Eriksson: Harry, why do some people have all the luck while others are miserable?

Harry Lund: Monika, we have each other.
