"I Complain", Roman Polanski, four and a half stars.
The film is adapted from the famous injustice in French history "Dreyfus case", when a Jewish officer in the French army was accused of treason and exiled. The film begins with Dreyfus being convicted and exiled, and tells the story of Colonel Picard's discovery of some doubts in the case. Although the film is about the Dreyfus case, the frequency of Dreyfus' appearance in the whole film is very low. Polanski focuses more on the persecution of Dreyfus and a person who "performed his duties". description.
From the perspective of the whole film, it continues Polanski's consistent style. The overall color is dark, dark and gloomy, and the narrative is slow. Of course, this is the reason why I gave this film four and a half stars. The narrative is slow, and there is basically no focus. There will be some viewers who miss this good film because of this. From the perspective of the whole film, there is a great maintenance of neutrality and objectivity, and there are basically no provocative and sensational scenes. Polanski tries to put the incident on the stage, in the words of Dreyfus, "You have done your duty. ".
Judging from the picture, I really like the texture of this picture so much, whether it is the background, costumes, props or other, the level is higher than some dramas and I don't know where it is.
Let's talk about the name "I accuse" again. What exactly is this accusation accusing? Or, who is suing? Is Dreyfus the victim of a wrongful case, the protagonist Picard? Or is Polanski using the film to accuse himself of what happened more than 40 years ago? There are many interpretations of this. From my personal point of view, this film mainly focuses on a preconceived prejudice, a crazy radical nationalism, and a rotten and backward bureaucratic system. A passage in the original film "According to your logic, if my handwriting matches the letter, it will prove my guilt; if my handwriting is inconsistent with the letter, it will also prove my guilt", as for the injustice itself, the ink point is indeed too few .
