transfixed.
I tried to look less frustrated. I told myself that everyone is flawed, and the greater the person, the more so. Hey, I want to live happily. So back to the bedroom, the first thing I did was not to review the English test tomorrow, but to finish watching the 2005 Oscar-nominated "Ray" on the computer.
QQ kept ringing, and I was chatting and browsing the images, just like I did a few weeks ago. At that time I was watching another movie that was also popular in 2005, "Flying Tycoon".
I have a reason.
The story
Lei, like almost all black children, was born in a slum. His mother is a firm person. When he was very young, Lei saw his brother fall into the big water basin. The younger brother never stood up again. Later, Lei's eyes were blurred and blind, I would rather believe that he was blind from crying.
The strange old man in the block taught Lei to play the piano, using one finger to play a colorful melody. He was fascinated ever since.
Lei went to the city to find his dream, met good friends, and these good friends eventually left, like all sad or realistic stories. Only music is left. People still like his singing madly, don't they? The future is so bright, and everything gradually becomes clear.
But.
But he was still lying on the ground, the imaginary water overflowed, and the little corpse floated up.
He is taking drugs because he is still afraid of the dark.
The general plot is like this, of course, in the end our protagonist defeated himself. Don't ask me how such a little thing can occupy the two-and-a-half-hour-long picture. Of course, there are many details. The reason why I don't talk about them is because they are too plain and have nothing to do with the subject. The narration is dull like a history textbook.
This is a common problem in almost all biopics. Don't want to be different, what you have to face is the life of a great person.
Even Martin Sicoses messed up.
The director even used the headline of a certain year and the flood of news reports to show the progress of the story. This really surprised me. I think of "Flying Tycoon" again, and Howard had a debate in it. I couldn't understand what he said like I couldn't see the meaning of the play.
The image
color is very kitsch. Big red, green and purple.
In line with the era in people's impressions.
I heard that this film is positioned as a building for musicals. Indeed, in the film, Ray plays the piano and sings, and the audience indulge in dancing scenes everywhere. The venues are getting bigger and bigger, and the equipment is getting better and better, but it is still the case. The masses are portrayed as a bunch of fools, and their enthusiasm seems to never diminish.
I bought Jin Kelly's "Song in the Rain" a few days ago, an old film, and bought it for collection. I subconsciously think that something like that is called a serious song and dance film. The aria dance is seamlessly combined with the mood of the characters and the development of the plot.
Probably because Lei is a super heavyweight, the director felt that it would be a waste of resources if he didn't add as much of his music as possible. It's a pity that this old man is also blind, and you are unlikely to ask his singing and dancing to appear in other scenes.
Lei entered the drug rehabilitation center, and the pain of losing the nourishment of drugs kicked off. In a trance, Lei looked back on the first half of his life, the unforgettable things, the cherished people. Floating light and glimpses, the color is very gorgeous, the picture is very shaky, and the lens jumps quickly, like a dream that can't get out of it.
If at this time you think of a famous section in "Guessing the Train", please don't say it.
Music
of course I would say music. If you don't talk about music, this movie review can be thrown directly into the trash can.
After Charles died in April 2004, the album "Genius Loves Company", which he collaborated with the superstars who could be called the aircraft carrier class, quickly hit the top and became one of the best-selling albums last year.
Then, Grammy became a nostalgic night because of him.
So, never worry that there are no exciting tracks in the viewing process. Many exciting classics reappeared one by one, and I even found the melody of the new song "Danie" by the popular female singer, Joss Stone, known as "Soul Baby".
Ray Charles's singing is a glass of old wine, strong and full-bodied, only a careful taste will discover how beautiful it is.
It is a pity that the film spreads such singing to every corner, piled up layer by layer, lacking change.
Lei always sang slightly cheerfully, completely out of touch with the turning point of the story. At least half of the
performance
watching this film went to Jamie Fox. After all, he defeated Leo Nato of the unconquerable years, and basically won without suspense. Australian national treasure actress Cate Blanchett commented that Leonardo had reached the peak, but he finally lost. This shows how brilliant Jamie Fox’s performance in "Thunder" is.
The arc of his mouth when he laughed, the stumbling posture when he walked, and the persistence and firmness between his eyebrows were just like the real Charles.
It is said that Ray himself has personally affirmed Fox's performance. The fact is that at the Oscars ceremony, Fox was sitting in front of a piano. The moment he looked back, I saw another soul full of legends.
The two heroines play the roles of Lei's mother and wife respectively. They embodied the good qualities of all housewives. Forbearance, steadfastness, hard work. I don't know their names, Xiaosheng is polite.
The problem
is no perfect article, as there is no outright despair.
The same goes for movies.
Ray Charles himself is a very legendary and experienced person, and the director wants to express too many intentions, so that most of the time the film is like a book. I personally think that the biggest mistake comes at the end. When Lei was faced with unprecedented mental pressure and a bottleneck in his career development, he thought of his mother and younger brother. They said something meaningful to him, so Lei cheered up again. Such a turnaround is obviously due to the excessive force in the narrative in the early stage, which made it impossible to stop, and had to rely on psychological resistance to reluctantly end.
Unable to think of "Lord of the Rings 3", Jackson made the evil side too strong, so that the right side had no possibility of winning at all, and finally had to force a bunch of dead souls. The finishing in just a few minutes compared to the previous few hours of laying out, became the biggest flaw in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Two minutes before the end of the film, the director introduced Lei's life thereafter with an extremely calm tone until his death. There is no room for lyricism, and there is no more room for imagination. This is a terrible ending, but for memorializing a superstar who has just passed away, it does not seem to be better.
Sicoses is much smarter, and he makes the film come to an abrupt end when the self-contradictions of the characters have reached the extreme.
