Geniuses and mortals

Talent is a gift from God. God is fair, and given you talent, other aspects will inevitably be missing.
Ray-a black spiritual singer, a genius living in a dark world. He was born in poverty and was totally blind at the age of 7. It was music that made him unfold in another way—his mileage, all of him.
The lingering sound surrounds. He can hear voices that ordinary people can't hear. There is a scene in the film: when he is dating his girlfriend, he teaches her to listen to the sound of the cool breeze sweeping the window, with a face of innocence. Later, his girlfriend became his wife.
No matter when, there will always be endless black all around. Music is the ferry boat on the dark sea, let him sail to the light of the soul, but in the real life without music, he is a lonely mortal. He made all the mistakes a man should make for success: taking drugs and changing lovers. The poverty of his childhood led to his stingy and greedy temperament. Facing the needs of his lover, he behaved cowardly and irresponsibly.
The sound of his piano, his singing, comforts people's hearts. I like every scene of Lei's performance in the film. His devotion and complacency in the music are moving. Music is his true lover throughout his life. In life, he is just a selfish ordinary person.
"Thunder" is a good biopic. Fox's outstanding acting skills, plain and not exaggerated, can be called both form and spirit, and he deserves the award. But that's all. The whole film still follows the old pattern of American biographies, without more or greater breakthroughs. For example, too much rendering of the subconscious mind of the character. When he was a child, Lei's brother died unexpectedly, which became a huge shadow in his psychology. The fear scenes in his subconscious appeared repeatedly in the film. It seems that all of Lei's problems are caused by this, which makes people feel that they are not persuasive. The screenwriter is like a psychoanalyst, too one-sided and too far-fetched.
How difficult it is to understand a person's heart. No matter how hard others work, they can only enter a skin.

Ray Charles: Leader. If anyone's leadin' the band I'm the leader! You know what? Forget the bohumps. I'm goin' my own way.

Oberon: Who's gonna book your gigs? Marlene's got you locked up and she ain't about to let her golden goose go.

Lady in Rain: [singing] Straighten up and fly right. Cool down papa don't you blow your top.

    [Speaking]

Lady in Rain: Ray Robinson you are fan-tastic.

Oberon: There you go man. Gimme some skin.

Ray Charles: [Feels card in his hand] What's this?

Oberon: Jack's card. I got his number at the hotel

  • Jack Lauderdale: So Ray, we got to talk about your name, man. Robinson. I mean, Sugar Ray got to Robinson franchise all sewed up. So I'm thinking we go with your middle name: Charles. As in "Ray Charles."

Ray Charles: I don't care what you call me, man, just as long as my name is on the record.
