When love comes, you don't know how it happens

The subtlety of love is that the germination of love is only between lightning and flint.

Not sure what the feeling was at that moment.

Hesitation, entanglement, detour, temptation, emotional joys and sorrows, sensibility invades the brain and drives out reason.

People say that when you are young, love is bigger than the sky, and love is more important than life and death.

But what is love, why love, and how to distinguish the relationship between liking, lust and love?

In the minds of teenagers, that is too serious and boring topic.

When this kind of uncertainty hinders the progress of a relationship, in the uncertain wandering, we always think, perhaps, we are still so ignorant in the face of love.

"The Half Of It".

The movie has a clever name with multiple meanings.

As mentioned at the beginning, love is the process of mortals separated by God to find their other half;

It's saying that we don't know much about love, and we don't know when we'll fall in love. In these relationships, there is so much ambiguity and uncertainty, so vague that it is impossible to answer.

I dare not say it or do it, because I don't understand it yet, on the eve of growing up.

This is just an ordinary white American town.

Ellie and her father are strangers. As an Asian nerd, she has few friends in high school. The only connection she has with her classmates is to make money by writing homework for them.

Until Paul, a stubborn male classmate, found Ellie and begged her to write a love letter for him to pursue the school beauty Aster, the introverted Ellie suddenly found herself in a complicated relationship.

"The Half Of It" is a gentle movie. Although it sets up a complex and contradictory relationship between four corners, what everyone really struggles with is not the choice of love, but how to follow their heart and be themselves.

High school is a delicate stage in life. It seems to have understood a lot of truth as it moves towards the door of adulthood, but it still embraces the naivety of teenagers.

Ellie hadn't even started a real relationship, and she was still doing a rational analysis of the benefits of all her relationships.

The confusion of teenagers is that their understanding of love is still one-sided and superficial.

Paul thinks love is dating a boy and a girl; Aster is troubled by the fact that he is in a relationship that everyone thinks is a match made in heaven, but has no joy in getting love at all; Ellie doesn't even know what love is, the experience is the black and white movie his father has been watching, right She chose to escape from the sudden turmoil in her heart.

So in this story that he loves her and loves her, she loves her but not him, and she doesn't know who she should love, the attribution of feelings is not so important.

Director Wu Siwei delicately described the moment when the girls made love, and their souls resonated in the constant collision. Although Ellie is just borrowing the identity of the boy Paul, she is completely communicating with Aster by herself.

Coincidentally, Aster is not a vase-like character. She is beautiful, but the spiritual world is far deeper than her beautiful appearance. She and Ellie are actually alone in nature, so metaphysical topics can actually stimulate her enthusiasm for communication.

The best scene in the movie is the "girls' conversation" between Aster and Ellie in the pool. Paradoxically, if you want to refuse and welcome, the ambiguous atmosphere rises in the mist. In line with the story at the beginning of the movie, at that moment, the faces of the girls are reflected in the water, and they seem to be complete, just like the beginning of the creation.

In general, the boy Paul is written as a superficial character, making jokes, or foiling the feelings of the girls.

But the director didn't.

Paul is also cute. Although he is extremely straight, he is ignorant in love and lacks both the skills of love and the patience to communicate.

But the boy is serious and equally kind. He didn't know what the change in his feelings towards Ellie was. He only knew that love was dating between men and women. When the emotions were ambiguous, it was always right to kiss.

This idiot somehow became the hero of the town. He also unintentionally contributed to the most touching scene of the movie. As he ran after the train, Ellie, who had dismissed it, burst into tears as he said "idiot".

So silly, and so good.

The movie does not stop in love, but grows and continues in everyone's life naturally.

Everyone is growing, constantly replenishing and improving their missing soul, and becoming a better version of themselves.

Facing the future, they are still ignorant and naive, but their eyes are full of light.

Watching such a brisk movie on an early summer night is a wonderful experience.

The movie reminds me of watching "The Blue Door" many years ago, when the childish Chen Bolin confessed to the ignorant Gui Lunmei, my name is Zhang Shihao, and I'm not bad.

Thinking that when I was a child, I was short of pocket money, and I wrote love letters for others and gave them to other girls.

It was torn apart by the girl and thrown in the face.

That girl has now become his wife.

Life is such a strange story.

In the early morning of May 4, the rain fell in Beijing, the breeze hit, and the summer heat was swept away.

That's what movies are like. The troubles in the past are no longer troubles, all the joys and sorrows, now I think about it, they are just the joy of knowing and laughing.

The wind is blowing, the weather is cool, with a slight water vapor, there is no ambiguity in the night, only quiet and clear mood.

She is a social terror scholar, he is a brainless athlete, and she is the vase of the scandal center. On the surface, it is a love letter that accidentally connects the three people, but it is actually a process of three interesting souls discovering each other. The heroine said that the person who chases the train when seeing off is an idiot, and the person who sheds tears after seeing the other person chasing the train is also an idiot - but when it is so reluctant to give up, who can not be a fool in the eyes of others?

The Half of It quotes

  • Ellie Chu: I'm Ellie Chu.

Aster Flores: Yes, I know. You've only been playing my dad's services every Sunday for, like, four years. You're his favorite heathen. He can't handle mediocre accompanists, even if they ARE saved.

  • Ellie Chu: The good thing about being different is that no one expects you to be like them.
