A priest has been silent on the island for nearly 40 years, regretting all day long, and explaining people's doubts.
This is the story told by Russian director Pavel Longkin's "Island of Lonely" (also translated "Island of the Saints" in 2006). In 1942, a base of the Northern Fleet was occupied by the German army. Under the threat of the German army, the young soldier shot and killed his superior captain, and then an explosion occurred. He survived and was rescued by a monastery priest. Since then, he has been worshipped as an ascetic throughout his life God.
Time has come to 1976, and the priest's reputation for predicting the future is growing, and a naval commander has come to seek medical treatment for his insane daughter to no avail. The priest told him that your daughter is not sick, but that the devil lives in her heart.
Afterwards, the priest prayed to God in the snow, asking for forgiveness of the girl's sins to exorcise the demons. As a result, a miracle occurred and the girl's mind returned to normal. The commander thanked the priest, and the two began to chat. The priest told the sins of the year, and the commander said in amazement that I knew that person. You only shot him in the arm. The subsequent explosion made him grab the board and escape. I am him, you don't have to feel guilty, you can calmly. leave.
There is no memory that cannot be hidden. Like a joke in life, the priest has faced God countless times and asked to wash away his sins and make his soul as white as snow. When the answer was unexpectedly revealed, he told the priest at the convent that it was time for me to leave. As a result, he lay in a coffin with a cross and passed away peacefully.
Time is not just a relentless passing.
The film is full of apocalyptic connotations, and has the self-awakening spirit inherent in Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment", but history is only an illusion, and it can never come again. What is rare is that the image is isolated, serene and beautiful, and the whole is full of metaphysical redemption, which means that this redemption cannot be direct, and even the repentance in it has been overlooked, and there is no calm look back. Indeed, "Lonely Island" is a rare masterpiece in Russia in recent years.
