Like the novel, the movie anthropomorphizes Golden Mao Enzo, peeping into the life of the owner Danny through Enzo's third perspective, covering Danny's important life nodes. The film uses flashbacks, opening with Enzo listlessly lying on the floor of his home, the dim tones and the angle of the backlight seem to suggest that this may be the end of his life. Such an opening set a warm and sad tone, and every subsequent teasing of the dog made the audience laugh at the same time, but also made them wake up to think that the ending will always be a parting that everyone does not want to see.

The film conveys to us through the anthropomorphic form of animals that these cute little creatures are our friends and that they are equally determined to choose us...
