Murder complicity thoughts

This was the first time I saw Germi's film and I was very impressed. The sophistication of the black and white film presented at the beginning of the film is unforgettable. Against the backdrop of Mediterranean music, the camera sweeps across the endless Sicilian land, and the combination of rocks and meadows has a sense of fluidity. The male protagonist's slightly sentimental and decadent eyes indicate that this is a story with irony.

The film's narrative perspective is unexpected, and the audience has no choice but to stand in the position of complicity with the man who is determined to get rid of his old wife and marry a new lover. We saw how he was mad for his lover, how he carefully planned his conspiracy step by step, heard the voice of the devil in his heart, and saw every ruthless expression on his face. We were grabbed by the neck of the director and forced to watch the plot succeed and the villains laugh. However, we did not choose to protest or refute the opportunity. The director didn't give us such an opportunity either.

A murder, in this way, in a mocking way, easily and touchingly completed. As an audience, you can't help but ask: Who am I? Am I not an accomplice of that ecstatic murderer? His irrepressible desires, those seeds of evil, don't they grow in my heart too? In the face of the beauty of the beautiful woman and the vulgar behavior of the wife, don't we secretly sympathize with this man who has lost his head for love?

However, you will never find someone worthy of your sympathy. Every character in the movie, from the old father of the protagonist to the sleepy maid, everyone is selfish and scheming. In this beautiful Italian town like a fairy tale, it turns out that such a group of beasts lived: moral corruption, conspiracy everywhere, and people separated by belly.

What a poignant irony!

However, good people suffer and wicked people succeed, that is not the theme of this film. Instead, the director's satire of this supposedly serene and noble Italian town life rises to the heights of humanity at the last minute. That shot of just a few seconds raised the realm of the entire movie to a new level. The wicked are proud, indeed. But behold, there is a day when the wicked will be picked up by the wicked! Desires are rewarded, indeed. But behold, evil desires never end! Just when you thought you were ruthless enough, the crocodile's sharp teeth might have bitten on the back of your neck!

So, this is not a funny movie about Italian customs, but a movie about human greed and loyalty. It's a sad story told in comedy form.
