Every time I watch my literary godmother - Jane Austen's film adaptation of her IP, if I don't do my homework first and understand the story first, I will feel confused and even feel very dull and boring. . Only by having a general understanding of the development of the characters and the plot, can we understand the relationship between the characters in the process of watching, and notice and dig out the content related to the main line of the story.
Watching Hollywood and other American blockbusters, you don't need to know the plot and characters in advance, because it will be automatically interpreted, but watching movies based on Austen's works is not the case. This time, I didn't know the plot and characters in advance, and the experience was very bad.
The heroine of "Emma" is different from the heroines of Austen's other works. She is smart, assertive and independent. Although Bennett Elizabeth is also very likeable, this time I see a very different one. The heroine really has a refreshing feeling.
This novel is considered to be the most mature work of Jane Austen's artistic technique. The heroine's character has the most depth and connotation, a woman who keeps growing and finally overcomes her shortcomings and moves towards real happiness.
Of course, I have only read the third chapter of the original book, so it is not easy to draw conclusions right away. In all fairness, as far as movies are concerned, most of us would still prefer works like Pride and Prejudice, which have ups and downs in the plot, with radiant characters, distinct personalities, bright tone and humorous satire of the ugly society. One of my favorites is the BBC's 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice.
Plot-wise, the show is pretty bland. Anyone who is familiar with Austen's works knows that her works are generally the gradual love and marriage entanglements of young men and women in the middle class at the turn of the 18th to the 19th century. Usually, there are always some young female protagonists who are full of personality and assertiveness. After one or two young men and women's love entanglements, there may be scumbags, but in the end, they finally get married with a reliable male protagonist. The background of the story is almost a town in England, and the activities are basically nothing more than parties, dances, and many plots are character dialogues... Therefore, this kind of plot lacks drama and is boring to the general audience. And "Pride and Prejudice" is the strongest story of all the works, so it has the greatest influence.
As for this movie, there is still a lack of in-depth understanding of the original book. After reading the original book and then watching this movie, I am afraid I will have a new experience. Update it later!
