After watching "Brokeback Mountain" and then "The Wedding Banquet", you will feel much more relaxed. But in turn, you will also feel that from "The Wedding Banquet" to "Brokeback Mountain", Ang Lee has become more mature, restrained and realistic. "The Wedding Banquet" is a serious comedy, but it would be too superficial to equate it simply with a farce. In fact, the breadth of metaphors contained in this film is astounding. From the relationship between father and son, to Chinese and Western cultures; from family ethics to US-Taiwan politics, "The Wedding Banquet" condenses all kinds of social relations. And the collision of Chinese and Western cultures makes people laugh out loud. The most interesting thing is the Chinese people's skills in making weddings and bridal chambers. Even Ang Lee couldn't help but "show up" in the film: "What you see is the result of five thousand years of sexual repression in China." Whether it is his son who dare not break through The authority of the father is still the "obscenity" of the newly married men and women at the wedding banquet. This film has made the best comment for the "repression" of the Chinese people. The triangular layout of Wei Tong (Taiwanese), Wei Tong's lover Saimen (American), and Weiwei (Shanghainese) also implies the political relationship between Taiwan, the United States, and the mainland. In a word: Ang Lee will never let you down. He and his works are the product of the 5,000-year-old Chinese culture, and that kind of delicacy and restraint can only be truly understood by Chinese people of the same ancestor.

As a director, Ang Lee's performance in "The Wedding Banquet" is still a bit naive. The rough details in the movie are everywhere, far less than the meticulous work after "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"; but in terms of content and plot, this I feel that this is one of Ang Lee’s best films: I put a lot of effort into it, and the portrayal of cultural differences is accurate, sharp and lively. The film Lee Ang is more successful as a screenwriter than as a director.

How avant-garde this movie was 20 years ago! ! Shu Mi~~ Zhao Wenxuan, you bastard, you are so handsome! ! ! The director Soy Sauce's lines are too domineering. "Five thousand years of sexual repression" is the window paper that no one has pierced. . . Dad is the ultimate boss, don't underestimate Dad! One star for Moe Simon. Indeed, the traditional bridal chamber is terrible. . .
