Based on Dostoevsky's novel of the same name, Double Personality. Through Simon's eyes, we asked a multiple-choice question: What kind of self would we rather be?
Nowadays, many people in society label themselves as dual personalities. Everyone in the subconscious will have two sides or even multiple sides. One side may be sunny and positive, and the other side may be humble and dark. We often resent our dark and negative selves because we are still ordinary people among all living beings. If one day, you become irrelevant and non-existent in the eyes of others, what will our state of mind be at this time.
The Simon in the film is a person who is so humble that he hardly exists in life. If you ask him to give you your seat on an empty subway, he will stand up obediently; the security guard who punches him at work every day will never recognize him. His name, but he obediently pretends to be a stranger to register anonymously every time; the girl he likes, works with him but never remembers his name, and he can only peep silently from the opposite window every day she. As a small employee, he works diligently for the company, but the boss never seems to recognize him, and his colleagues are so indifferent to him, as if he does not exist. He is a person who has been abandoned by life and society, living in a dark corner that is ignored by others.
Thought days like this would go on unremarkably until he had someone in his life who looked exactly like him, James, and to make matters worse, James was better than him in every way except that they looked the same . He has a higher emotional intelligence and is appreciated by his boss, even if he actually stole Simon's work; he is scheming, flattering everywhere, and even winning the heart of Simon's favorite heroine.
To make matters worse, he started taking Simon's place in the family, even taking his place at the funeral of Simon's mother after his death. All this made Simon uneasy. Maybe it's not terrible to be ignored in life, the most terrible thing is to be replaced. No matter how weak or unbearable he is, he cannot bear it.
Many times, we don’t want to admit that we have two sides, in fact, we don’t want to admit our dark side, so when others suddenly expose themselves, they will find all kinds of excuses to deny them, explaining that the ugly, ugly, embarrassing face is not us. .
Simon, the protagonist of the film, is eager to be excellent and sleek, but at the same time, he is afraid of becoming the victim of the devil who wants to replace him, because he sees the dark heart beneath James' bright exterior, which makes him even more at a loss. He was afraid of being an ugly person, and even though everyone was flattering and praising James, only he knew how evil the other self was.
No matter who you want to be, the movie tells us that the only thing you can't compromise is uniqueness. Every individual is an irreplaceable and unique entity. We don’t have to imitate or become who we are in the eyes of others, but we need to make ourselves have a clear conscience. Comparisons in life are inevitable. The only thing we can do is to keep our true self. The only thing to strive for is that uniqueness. It seems that Simon has made a choice in the film. In our case, do we have the courage to face his dark side?
