How is life going on

I love this kind of healing movie, telling a true fairy tale from the perspective and experience of a boy, but it is by no means a children's movie.
A lonely and old-fashioned boy started a reluctant journey. He was about to start a shit-like summer with some people he didn’t like, but then suddenly met an absurd friend and led him to an ideal. A water world like a country where you can escape, you can be happy, and the growth and change will take place slowly... The
story is simple and plain, and the truth is fairy-tale unbelievable. Owen is like a mentor sent by God, an ideal image in the boy's heart. With such selfless help, Duncan is changing and growing... The whole film is not overly sensational, but it always makes people laugh with tears. The final parting is not rendered, but he clearly realizes that maybe he will never again. The meeting, this is just a short stay in the boy’s life, leaving happily with a faint sadness.
At the end of the film, my heart is sour. There are many possibilities and many choices for teenagers. For adults who are already complicated, hypocritical and tolerant, they can still be rash. And why, mother finally sat with Duncan, but did not leave the car, what was her last choice? When I have grown up, facing the unhappiness and dissatisfaction of life, how should I take the next step... After I grow up, I will have more and more troubles.
PS: I really like the soundtrack of the film. It is also very simple, but eye-catching.

The Way Way Back quotes

  • Duncan: This is the only place I'm happy.

    Owen: What's going on?

    Duncan: I hate him.

    Owen: Who?

Duncan: Trent. My mom's boyfriend. He said I was a three. He asked me what I thought I was on, a scale from one to ten. He called me a three. Who says that to somebody?

Owen: Someone who doesn't know you.

Duncan: I didn't want to have to answer! I shouldn't have to answer!

Owen: Listen to me. That's about him, man. That's all about him. It's got nothing to do with you.

Duncan: [vehemently] Yeah? How do you know?

Owen: 'Cause I know, okay? Don't worry about how I know. My dad was the same way. That's why I don't like patterns and rules. And that's why you can't buy into that shit. You gotta go your own way. And you, my friend, are going your own way.

  • Joan: Carry a laser down the road that I must travel!

Kip: Why would it be 'carry a laser'?

Joan: Because it's a song about outer space.
