be free in the Lord

Terrence Malick's film is one of the easiest to read. Although it is 3 hours long, it is very appreciative and there is no sleepy place.

The famous quote at the end of the film not only fits the film very well, but also throws out the contrast of the difference between belief and unbelief. The natural environment we live in is beautiful and full of all kinds of things for our bodies and depths of field to enjoy, but people screw it up, especially some people. It is because of this group of people that another group of people has also given up the proper management of the authority God has given mankind to manage the earth. This result is really disappointing. Who can be blamed? However, it seems that people still have the motivation and hope of life, and whether they can be comforted. We are able to meet good people and behaviors compared to those who are disappointing. These people just passed us by without names.

When something fell, someone reminded me and picked it up for me; when I was driving and merging, someone gave me a space; when I didn't understand something, someone patiently answered me and took the initiative Help me figure out the solution...these people make the world a beautiful place.

The peaceful mountain village of the Franz family is happy or, complete home, with the relationships in the village. However, Satan the devil is omnipresent, and he is very familiar with the openings in everyone's heart, and he can also take advantage of them. Turning the once kind-hearted villagers into the devil's puppet and sing-along is like the devil Satan mocking and humiliating God. Satan used Job to challenge God and tempted Jesus. He thought in his heart that if a man of faith or the son of God finally worshipped Satan and forsook God, that would be the greatest blow to God and could make Satan ecstatic. But, always, there are always such a small group of people, why are they so ignorant of current affairs. The plan to rebel against Job and Jesus was a slap in the face; the whole village changed their faces and swore allegiance to Hitler, but only the Franz family refused. .

What would people do if everyone did something scandalous and only one person didn't? Must get rid of him! Otherwise we'd all be bad people. The poor wife with children is discriminated against in life, and adults also tell their children to discriminate against Franz's children, but what did Franz do? He didn't give allegiance to Hitler, neither did he gain benefits or harm the interests of other people. Why did people persecute him so much? It is because of Franz's holiness in this matter that the light shines on the ugliness of others.

The Franz family lives only in this village, where all their acquaintances and friends are. When we are ostracized by our entire social circle, that is a huge loss. Have you ever had a taste of being kicked out of your house by a vicious wife? Home is not just a house. It is different from friends and colleagues. It is a person who has invested his feelings in it for many years. It is the only memory of a period of life and cannot be replaced. No one can say that they don't care, no one can just pat their butt and leave as if nothing has happened, "I don't leave the master here, I have a place to leave the master", "There are friends outside, can't I still live if I leave here?" That's not the case, then It was someone else who banished you from your own memories and feelings. What's more painful, the reason for all this is not what you want. It's obviously because others don't care about the relationship, and the family is rubbish. It's obviously because the villagers have changed, changed their ideology, changed their beliefs, but they want to keep the unchangeable effigy. The Lanz family is cornered. Obviously they turned into demons, Franz asked in doubt: "Can't they see demons when they see those?"

If it is out of blood, only revenge can solve it. If your wife and daughter are being bullied, then pick up the guy and look at their hands and feet, and let those who were burned in hell have no peace in this world. I will say: "If you dare to touch my family again, I will let you never again. I can't pick up chopsticks, I can't speak anymore, I can't taste the taste, I don't want to look in the mirror again in this life..." However, how much blood can be shed by chopping his hand, and how much debt can be paid, only let me How good is it for a person to appreciate their weeping? Do they owe a blood debt to me alone? After the fall of the Nazis, where are the devil's dogs? Killing is the lightest punishment, right? The living, including their family members, descendants (if any), are not all spit and contempt, living without dignity, wishing they had never been born?

The war is over, the Nazis are gone, but the world has not been turned into a hell on earth by most of the people loyal to the devil, becoming more and more sinful, but gradually restored to the harmony and peace before the war, as if everything had never happened. Germans, Japanese, Italians still live in peace with their neighbors, both politically and civilly. That's because there's always a group of people who stand on the opposite side of evil and stick to it. Although these people themselves did not realize how great they had done and what effect they had played, they were God's chosen servants. Every little bit of various roles of each individual accomplishes the big picture arranged by God.

Franz is not an irresponsible husband, he is a real husband, he leads his family to stand on the stand of justice all the time, and what he leaves to future generations is holiness, justice and dignity. The other villagers left their descendants with lies and shame. And only a marriage that is run according to God's will can be so vigorous and strong. The wife should submit to her husband, and the husband should love his wife.

Let the filthy people remain filthy, that's their choice. In the era when Satan the Devil is in power, many people will sell their souls to him, and the degree of evil is higher than one. People who sell children, sell organs, and sell drugs, many of them are no longer human in the eyes of normal people, and they have completely lost the soul they should have. Humans can be cruel to that extent. It's like this in "Tengu", and it's like this in "Hunting", don't be surprised that filthy people continue to choose filth; country fights against country, people fight against people, father and son turn against each other, and don't be surprised if wives and daughters become enemies. [Mark 4:12] So that when they see, they see, but they do not understand; when they hear, they hear, but they do not understand. lest they turn back and be forgiven.

And people like Franz are blessed because they have the opportunity to experience the weight of faith and the opportunity to pray earnestly to God. At the end of the film, Franz died, and his wife was in grief, but they both found the greatest comfort and freedom in looking up to God. They don't need to cover up with lies, they are rewarded in heaven, and they have left a precious legacy in this world. At the end of the film, George Elliott said: "Part of the growing good in the world depends on obscure behavior; half of the reason that we don't get so bad around us is from those who live in secret and keep faith, and buried in the humble cemetery."

Malik's grasp of the rhythm of the whole film makes the viewing experience very comfortable. The ending is the most exciting part, although there is no majestic music, no explosive scenes, the hero dies and the heroine grieves. But Malick was able to successfully mobilize the audience's enthusiasm for the belief in God, so that this seemingly tragic ending turned into a joyous jubilation.

So, the world is very bad, but it has never been defeated. Is it accidental, or is it the protection of a huge and almighty ruler?

There are too many stories, the plot is too real, and the characters are too rigid, causing the picture and sound to completely lose room for echoes. Malik's worst performance ever.

If one word is used to summarize Malik's films, then there is nothing more suitable than "sorrowful for the world". His movies seem to have a divine tolerance, but in fact they are not friendly at all to fans who look up to the universe. Especially after "New World", they all persuaded a large number of audiences with the attitude of "willing to be the best". The author may explain the reason in his "The Secret Life": In what mood does a person write poetry? When she had no way to "change the world"; when he had no strength to "stick to oneself"; when they had no chance of winning in their resistance to "banal evil". The world is so gentle and vast, but human beings are so stupid and humble. What the war left behind was nothing more than this sentence repeated thousands of times. The super wide-angle view of the magnificent natural scenery, solemn civilization and historical sites, and the hardworking farmers, the delicate human emotions and the pristine rural life are infinitely close to the pupils of the audience. I can't estimate how much wisdom, strength, and odds this poem has given us, but I know there must be.

A Hidden Life quotes

  • Mayor Kraus: This is what happens when a world dies. Men survive. But their life is gone. Their life is gone! Their reason for living.

  • Franz Jägerstätter: [interal monologue] Once you never forgave anyone... judged people without mercy. Now you see your own weakness... so you can understand the weakness of others.
