Voiceover: Letters/Inner Monologue/Subtext

The actor whispers / speaks his heart

Interaction between actors without dialogue / eye contact / gas exchange / inner dialogue / facial expression / speaking with eyes

staggered tone

Not a conversation, but a speech to yourself/thinking/imagining a conversation in the future, for example: "What if I leave?"

Macri's feeling: how did I go, um, I saw that I was walking, I felt the emotion of leaving my hometown, as if I saw the dawn at the head of the village, but I turned away from the village, and then... What will happen to you, I can feel it To your pain, to your disappointment, to feel your feelings...

Common sense: Well, if I go, you're in trouble, eh? How to do?

It can be seen that Malick's latent information is rich, affectionate, profound and true. This emotion moves the audience.

The dislocation of the inner voice and reality is close to the real reality

Opposite voice is fake, should, designed reality

Shots/shots that feel the atmosphere serve the "emotion of the story"

symbolic picture

When the camera exits and pushes, think about what it will be like to withdraw

Cut across the line

Jumping side by side, A said to A, B said to A, and said that you are not afraid of jumping.

Breathing lens photographers also need to use the emotional dance of the story

Mixed Cut Mixed Cut Mixed Cut

The next one at a in the multi-room is at b in the room

Flying instead of staying in a story

Imperfect, but has every combination of aesthetic and historical form I could dream of - narration and Eliot's text of the protagonist, Bruno Ganz in front of Hitler's portrait, Nazi and Christian symbolization, unsubtitled German ambience, voice in the subjective shot , the opening mass and the five-minute confrontation of "Triumph of the Will", the wide-angle lens and the idyllic Austrian landscape under the pentatonic scale, the Passion of Matthew stretches the railway tracks and creeks on the way of life and death, and leads to Berlin. The train echoes the black-and-white "Berlin Symphony", and the three times of Guretsky's dirge finally reached its climax... So light, shadow, sound and music merged into poetry, natural religion and history unified into man, three hours The narrative is gone, replaced by a more "silent" power than "Days of Heaven"; this is the ultimate image I've always wanted to make

The rhythm is really too slow, and it still feels quite PPT. The scenery, the soundtrack and the plot don't quite match. Since the actors are basically German and Austrian, why do they use English for the dialogue? Is it because the director is American?

A Hidden Life quotes

  • Mayor Kraus: This is what happens when a world dies. Men survive. But their life is gone. Their life is gone! Their reason for living.

  • Franz Jägerstätter: [interal monologue] Once you never forgave anyone... judged people without mercy. Now you see your own weakness... so you can understand the weakness of others.
