David Lynch's "Wild at Heart" won the Palme d'Or at the 43rd Cannes Film Festival in 1990. Nicolas Cage's snakeskin look is very classic, and I also chose this movie to watch, but in the first half, I couldn't get into the movie for a long time. The behavior of the characters can not find too strong rationale.
Nicolas Cage's Thaler was jailed for brutally killing a character who provokes him with a knife. After being imprisoned, he wants to see his sweetheart, Laura. Laura's mother, Mary, is very possessive of her daughter. The relationship between mother and daughter is tense. She tries her best to prevent her daughter from being with Seiler. So Seiler and Laura start eloping in their cars. At this time, the plot enters the plot of the road movie.
The two constantly went to bed and had sex, eloped in a car, and in the process revealed each other's past, and both had dark memories of their own lives. Lola was raped by relatives in her early years, her mother saw it with her own eyes, her father was set on fire at home, Seiler paid for drug dealers and so on. The two also have very real differences when narrating their past events. The movie uses flashbacks to tell the audience that what they tell is only partially true.
I predicted that the subsequent plot would be a development like "Bonnie and Clyde" or "The Endless Flower", but Lynch made a reunion version of the ending. Seiler couldn't help the temptation. In order to get money, he participated in the robbery plan of a group of people he met on the road. As a result, he was caught in a trap and almost killed. After spending six years in prison, he came out to meet Lola and his six-year-old. Son, his wild heart chose to run away again. I think the story is very cool here. The problem is that Lynch used the mechanical seance angel to make him change his mind quickly. The prodigal son returned, and the family was reunited.
The whole story style is more of a Western cult movie, mixing elements such as suspense, sex, violence, and surrealism. People who like this kind of film have always liked it very much. People who don’t like it have always liked it. People who don’t like it can’t watch it at all. I personally think that the soundtrack in the movie is very good, and the line is very cool: “Before the mountains and rivers are exhausted, Take a leisurely walk."
