"I want to know, do we really know where our hearts go? If so, in our hearts, why are we often indifferent to it? This life should be more than that, our goal, where we belong, you are my home , I knew from the first sight I saw you."

——"Beyond Orders"
1. Another Self
The film begins with a quarrel between husband and wife.
Wife Giovanna kept blaming honest husband Filippo for not taking the blame for her. On the street, they meet an old man with Alzheimer's disease, and the kind Philip takes him home, but Giovanna is furious. He is a stranger and a burden. The family is not rich in the first place, and with two children to raise, how can he take care of him? ! Oh, we know his name is Simon, so what, the police still can't find it!
Giovanna's marriage was at an impasse, and she went back and forth between work and life she didn't like every day. Only by looking at the handsome and charming Lorenzo in the opposite window could she awaken the desire and passion in her heart.
Does he have a girlfriend? What does he do?
The window opened and closed again.
The tide in my heart rose and receded.
Giovanna has wanted to be a pastry chef since she was a child, and she now makes pastries every week to send to friends' bars, but it seems like she can't even do that. Her food is not very popular. That day, she met Lorenzo on the way she took the old man to the police station. He actually recognized her and said he liked her desserts. They were sitting together drinking coffee, and the old man beside him suddenly seemed to have seen someone, and ran to a shop, knocked on the closed iron door in grief, and collapsed to the ground.
A few days later, the old man disappeared, and Giovanna found him in a noble residence. It turned out that his name was David, a famous pastry chef, and Simon was the only name he remembered.
Simon, that was the name of the man he loved so much.
The old man taught Giovanna to make pastries and told her to pursue her dreams. Finally, one night she walked into Lorenzo's house, but from there she saw her husband and herself in the window, so she gave up this relationship.
The old man died and left a letter.
Lorenzo moved away and he never came back.
Giovanna quit her job as an accountant, started as a pastry apprentice, and slowly went to find a better world. From her eyes, she saw a closed window and an open door.

2. Two Giovannas
Giovanna is a very beautiful woman, but with a tired and irritable face, she is too preoccupied with reality and lacks sympathy, but it is impossible to make people hate her. Instead, she is sympathetic. Like many married women, they run the house, raise their children, lose their love, and lose their dreams. Only Lorenzo can remind her of the youth she once had.
Everything is as unfamiliar as the other self. She was also young, she sat laughing on her father's shoulder, and she had dreams of immortality as a girl. But, see what you have left? I am reminded of Angelina Jolie's opening line in "Beyond Orders",
"I wonder, do we really know where our hearts go? If so, in our hearts, why are we so often indifferent to it? As for this..."
Yes, what are you afraid of? What's holding people back? Maybe another self. Actor Giovanna Mezzogiorno's performance is very delicate, moving, not sullen, from struggling and lost to suddenly enlightened, completely without trace.

3. A world without you
Maybe the old man should be called Simon, because he calls that name most of the time in the movie. His appearance is like a buried memory. When people get old, they forget a lot of things, especially after getting Alzheimer's. However, after forgetting the way home, forgetting his own history, and forgetting the damn concentration camp, he still couldn't forget the name of his beloved.
How disgusting a same-sex love was in those days, they were Jewish, they didn't have the chance to love each other, and they lost the time to love each other. Just staring silently, they know each other's heart. While dancing, although they could not embrace each other, their hearts danced in the lingering music.
Simon, a heart-wrenching name.
During the arrest of the Jews, David informed many people after learning of the situation. He proved his worth as he wished, but he did not have time to notify the most important people.
The letter hidden in the garden never had a chance for him to see it.
"After you left, red was not red, the blue of the sky was no longer blue, and the trees were no longer green. After you left, I had to look for color in my memories. After you left, I even miss the pain that made our love timid.
I regret waiting, I regret giving up, those encrypted messages; I regret the stolen glimpses of us in a world full of blind people. People are running away because if they could see us, it would be their shame, their hatred , their cruelty.
I'm sorry I didn't have the courage to ask you to forgive, that's why I've been unable to peer through your window. When I didn't know your name, through that window, I could always see you. You Also dreaming of a better
world where trees can be trees and blue can be the sky. I don't know if it's a better world,
since no one calls me 'David' anymore, since everyone Call me 'Mr. Vellore' and how can I say it's a better world?
How can I say that without you?"
A better world.

For David, there is Simon in a better world, so he often sees Simon sitting across from him, his figure after he leaves, and his smile. For David, that world can only be lost in a certain time and space in his heart, just like the whisper of the sea, which is always silent and never stops.
