1989 was an eventful year, a sensitive year.
What this country has experienced is difficult for other countries to fathom. Like we're drawn to Jim Jarmusch's indie films, just because they're fresh. This year, he filmed "Mystery Train" (also translated "Three Blue Moons"). It is said that there are four full moons in a year or "Blue Moons". I like the title of "Three Blue Moons", which fits perfectly with the kind of light and empty mood that the film exudes. Sometimes people always feel as if they are in the dark, when it is actually day, just because the nightmare has not passed and the pain is still there.
These three stories can be summed up as "seeking, seeking and seeking revenge" respectively. Probably most people like me like the first paragraph. "Elvis" has an extraordinary meaning to me. For so many years, I have often listened to his songs in the quiet night. This kind of singing not only soothes our unbearable reality, but also touches the beautiful memories deep in our souls. So, the first paragraph has a kind of empathy for me.
The first paragraph, a young couple from Yokohama, Japan, came to Memphis by train to find "Elvis"
blot. In fact, the confusion they originally thought was far less than what they saw in reality. Obviously, unlike girls who love "Elvis", men prefer Perkins and other singers other than "Elvis". He said that 60% of the buildings here are very similar to Yokohama. She said how. Interestingly, the two carried the big red box with a small wooden pole and crossed the street. This is what Orientals look like.
After checking in at the small hotel, the two finished making love. The man passed the night window and looked out. Except for the passing train in front, it was the moon hanging in the deep blue sky, as "Elvis" sang. Everything went back to incomprehension. He will continue to be confused. When I woke up in the morning, I heard a loud gunshot. In a little stunned, the man said of course, this is in the United States. This wonderful experience, for them, came so slowly and went silently, like an outdated train.
In the second paragraph, a rich girl from Rome sent away her husband's coffin (without explaining how he died), because the flight was delayed and she had to stay for another night. She could only wander aimlessly in the cluttered streets. In the cafe, a gangster told her a modern version of a story related to "Elvis", asked her for money, and she gave more, just to make him disappear from her eyes sooner. But after coming out, he and his accomplices were still with her, and she had nowhere to escape, so she ran into the hotel. She happened to be in the same room with another American woman, who almost fell into the predicament of life, and was lucky enough to meet a Roman woman. Her search received a positive response.
The woman was about to leave the city and broke up with her boyfriend. Roman women were attracted by the phantom of "Elvis". She thought the hallucination was real. Because "Elvis" is everywhere in the city. Late at night, they heard the murmur of someone making love next door. The next day, like the Japanese couple, they both heard a muffled gunshot. The Roman woman gave the woman a sum of money, and they left in a hurry.
The third paragraph is about the boyfriend who is about to break up with his girlfriend's brother and another black guy in the second paragraph. They got drunk and shot at a convenience store for no reason. They fled to the same small hotel in the morning. The gunshots heard were caused by them snatching the gun away. Girlfriend's brother was shot in the thigh. They left early in the morning and didn't dare to take them to the hospital. They saw a train approaching. They chased after them and wanted to catch up and leave. On this train, there were the girl who was about to break up and the young Japanese couple. The Roman women left by plane.
The third part of the story falls into the rut of seeking revenge. It's similar to the usual Hollywood scenes of picking quarrels and provoking trouble, nothing new. But there's still something puzzling about this movie. With this, there will be "Earth Night" in 1991. But my favorite is his 1984 "Stranger in Paradise".
It's just that after so many years, through this film, I will think about what happened in that year. People are always looking for the truth. But the truth is drifting further and further away. Just like the confusion of people in the film, it is getting bigger and bigger.
