"Death Experiment"

First of all: the conclusions drawn from this experiment do not actually make general sense. The recruitment advertisement for volunteers was published in the newspaper, and the remuneration was $14,000. Obviously, it was mainly aimed at people who lacked money. A lack of money is likely to mean a lower social status. Most of these people are sociological. A loser (no personality denial meant). As can be seen from the movie, volunteers are either unemployed, have a criminal record, or gnaw on old people... Such people account for the majority. From a statistical point of view, sampling is not universal. .

Second: The biggest inspiration for me from this experiment is the importance of strong will. The leader of the prisoners is the male protagonist Travis, and the leader of the prison guards is the old man, and the entire experiment is completely based on the conflict between the two. The male protagonist is upright and brave, and the old man is cowardly and docile. The latter's character is more easily manipulated by power, and then becomes an inhuman power machine. The plot unfolds with the conflict between the two. In the face of power, one can either manipulate it or become its slave, and of course, one can choose to stay away from it, and once the weak-willed approach power, they will lose their will. The pleasure of using power comes from the secretion of dopamine, and the behavior of gnawing an old man in prison is the same as what people who are addicted to video games, gambling or sex do. In layman's terms, the pleasure is too strong, and you can't control yourself at all. Indeed, most of the emperors remembered in history fall into two categories: Ming Jun and Duan Jun. The former has a firm will and can often lead the people to a better future. The oppressed especially support such monarchs, and the latter is crazy about power. This kind of firmness in disguise can also attract a large following, especially those who have no guts, and collectively make them feel extraordinarily powerful.

Third: We are actually people living in prisons. The moment the prison door opened, everyone stopped. The dead silence implied awakening. Hatred, desire, and sin all disappeared at this moment. Only then did they realize that they were individuals, and that killing was a crime and a fight. It's immoral, people are equal... In other words, they're normal people again. However, at the moment when the door opened, I suddenly realized that I am also a person living in prison. I have accepted the rules set by this society since birth, and if I violate it, I will be punished (I mean the punishment and Not only from the law, public opinion, accusations, isolation, abuse, etc. are all ways of punishment). And I seem to be used to such rules. Even if I am thinking, I can't make sure I am thinking rationally. After all, the old man in the movie has also found a good excuse for his atrocities. In his opinion , everything is in line with the rules and reasonable, he is just thinking rationally according to the rules. The progress of mankind is like opening the gates of prisons, and finding out after a brief glimpse of light is just entering a larger prison. I don't believe in God, that is, when atrocities happen, no one will stop them, and a new door can only be opened after the blood has flowed. If there is no real free world, what's the point of this blood struggle Woolen cloth?

The Experiment quotes

  • Nix: Expert in the penitentiary system, are you boy?

Travis: I just watch a lot of Discovery Channel.

  • Archaleta: Justice is what keeps us safe as a society. Ordered law.

Travis: Justice is what starts wars. And eye for and eye for an eye. It takes a turning of the cheek for this species to evolve.

Archaleta: Ah, so you're the one who knows what it's going to take for this society to evolve.

Travis: I'm just regurgitating what people have been saying for a long time.
