Simple movie review:

It is better to stay in the middle

From Chapter 5 of Tao Te Ching

Location: Long Island, USA

Character: Smart boy Xiaobai + supporting role

event:

1. When Xiaobai was 10 years old, the judge Laodou bought a bicycle for Xiaobai. As a result, he broke his leg. Laodou gave Xiaobai an earwax in a pool of blood. The purpose was to make Xiaobai forget the pain in his leg, but Laodou would not Explain why. But Xiaobai hated Laodou ever since. Love and fear.

2. Since then, Xiaobai has been messing around in order to make Laodou look good. If he can make a lot of money, he will not study hard. At the age of 19, he started an underground casino and was looked down upon by Laodou, and then he was fooled by a stock broker to play stocks together.

3. The big boss has two big brothers, a and b. A brings Xiaobai into the industry, which is not guaranteed and squeezed. b and Xiaobai look at each other.

4. The shell company jt Marin has made several IPOs. It can be bought, but it is not easy to sell. It must be signed by a or b. Generally not for sale. b later helped Xiaobai. In return, Xiaobai sold a message to b that he would come to clear the field within 20 minutes.

Main line = Fake companies get a lot of IPOs and let n+1 little whites deceive people, but they can't get in and fool people. Each Xiaobai started as an internship, and became a brother after 40 singles turned into a regular. The whole play uses the mode of 1+2+3+4, putting on the main line = happy ending.

Financial literacy: stockbrokers cannot operate illegally, and the cost is very high.

Highlights of the whole show: There is a white federal judge father, who can attack and retreat and defend.

Money is innocent and human nature is uncertain

It looks more like a documentary, and may not be interested in finance.

I've seen it before, but I almost forgot about it and re-watched it. In fact, the essence is fraud, taking an empty shell (there is a company name, and it is also trading listed stocks, but they are some unpopular people that no one pays attention to. In fact, there are no products. The new research results are all compiled now, and they are all through agent brokers. People—the account of the owner of the shell company) cheated money, and finally made a fortune and ran away, and continued to cheat in another shell. The biggest gain of the male protagonist is that he has exercised his flickering skills (flickering is beneficial in the short term, but harmful in the long run). The movie process is relatively steady and not as exaggerated as The Wolf of Wall Street, so the process of watching the movie may feel a little boring. The father-son relationship of the male protagonist is outside the main line. Although it does play an important role, it is a bit blunt.

Boiler Room quotes

  • Greg Weinstein: [to Seth] I'm going to be honest with you, I think you're running a good business and you're a smart kid, pulling in some real cash but I have to tell you this is a risky fucking business, are you honestly planning to deal cards to college kids when your fucking thirty five? You don't think you're going to get "pinched" in the next few years? Maybe it's about time to think further down the line.

  • Seth Davis: [Narrating] I was making good money with the casino but these guys were "macking" it hard, that's the level I wanted to be operating on so I drove out to Long Island, the office was a good hour from Wall Street, somebody forgot to tell the guys who worked there though, they looked and acted like they took the sixth train to Fulton Street every morning but it wasn't Wall Street it was exit fifty three on the Long Island Expressway, a good hour from the New York Stock Exchange, "Group interview my ass", it was like a Hitler youth rally in retrospect, the guy who pitched us, Jim Young was the head recruiter there between him and Michael honestly they can sell bubblegum at the lockjaw ward at Bellevue.
