A maverick soul, "Crimson Comedian"

Comedy is the favorite way of stress relief for people under high-intensity pressure. It has to be said that nowadays, the comedians who are popular nowadays all have the same characteristic, that is, "happy looking".

In the comedy performances we are familiar with, I am afraid that it is rarely felt by the audience that an unhappy face can also make a comedy. And Buster Keaton had such a label a hundred years ago, and the "cold joker" is what people say about him.

In the 1920s, the era of silent movies, Keaton's comedies were comparable to Chaplin's, but different. Mo is the biggest shock to me after watching Sherlock Holmes II.

With a serious expression, Keaton's exaggerated action and acting skills interpret the comedy elements of a hundred years ago. Buster Keaton, born in a family of jugglers, was originally good at juggling, and integrated various elements of film development to form the classic "Sherlock Holmes II".

The film is about Keaton, a projectionist who studies "how to be a detective" in his spare time. On the day he proposed to his beloved girl Katherine, he bought a candy for a dollar. In order to show sincerity, it was secretly changed to a four-dollar price tag. On the day when the rival in love appeared, because of this, it became a complete coincidence of being framed by the rival.

At this point, he was mistaken for the thief who stole Catherine's father's pocket watch. The engagement was therefore cancelled.

After following the rival in love, he returned to the screening room and started his film screening work. The performance scene in the movie happens to be in the same situation as him, in which the pearl necklace is stolen. So in the dream, Keaton himself brought into the role of Sherlock Holmes II. After various thrilling special effects, he finally solved the case and successfully rescued the heroine.

Speaking of thrilling special effects, it is different from the current special effects shots. The editing of various scenes, coupled with the continuous inertia of the characters' actions, the performance of hitting a wall and conflicting effects seems to be a perfect presentation of comedy, and the conversion of different scenes. , natural and smooth, there is no superfluous redundancy at all. The actions and states of the characters are vividly displayed.

The original rider had already fallen, and Keaton followed the motorcycle non-stop, crossing the tug-of-war team, crossing the thrilling train track, and crossing the broken bridge (two trucks happened to meet, and they set up a passable bridge. part), and finally the motorcycle entered the room of the tied heroine, Keaton kicked the gangster and successfully rescued the heroine.

Finally, Catherine came to Keaton after she figured out the truth. Keaton, who was overwhelmed, saw every action in the film through the projector, and imitated it step by step, making the love between the two draw a harmonious and perfect ending.

The performance of reality + dream + reality is really breathtaking. Although the film is only 45 minutes long, its interpretation of the integrity of the story is not inferior to today's production. It will still be worth recalling after a hundred years.
