first One question is how to maintain independent creation under the Hollywood system?
A: Our first three movies (I heard joel said it was the first one but the French female translator said it was the first three) were all made completely independently, that is, they were made by personal investment. But we had no other choice at the time, because we had never made a movie, we were not in this industry, and we had no credit at all, so we could only find personal investment, which was not our choice. After that, the situation of movies became more complicated, because some of our movies are cooperating with Hollywood production companies, and some are still independent productions or co-productions, but in general, no one is interested in directing. Our creation, because they expect us to make a good movie. Then the movie "Drunk Country Folk Songs" was invested by studiocanal alone, thanks to them.
The second question is that all of your films are original stories. Some stories are very unique. How did you create these stories?
A: Yes, our stories are original. We will get inspiration from various sources, such as newspapers. A story like "Fargo" (Forgive my bad taste ==) is derived from a piece of news I read in the newspaper about a man who murdered his wife and put her in a meat chopper inside. When we are co-creating the script, we will not have a good plan. We will not divide the work, say ethan, you write this one and I write the other. We usually sit in a room and start discussing, and then write down. The first scene, the second scene, the third scene, until the end of the movie.
Then I asked the question about the storyboard, and asked whether you would use a storyboard (storybord), and whether this carton-like storyboard will affect your style. (Here I heard that the French version is not the same as the translated version in English. As above, the English translation shall prevail because Ethan’s questions are in English.)
Answer: Yes, we do use storyboards, but it’s just very simple The painting is just for communication. It is not like comics. I don’t think our movie style is inspired by comics, and I’m not a big fan of comics. In fact, we often don't take some shots in the storyboard, sometimes we just forget, we will not say which shots we must take today. Sometimes the photographer comes back to us and tells us that we have missed this and that lens and we didn't take it. If we say yes, then let it go.
Then the lead actor came on stage and asked how he got the job.
The actor said that I live in LA (maybe I heard it wrong), and then I heard that the Coen brothers auditioned for actors in New York, so I went. Many of my friends have participated in their auditions before, and I heard that they all felt very good, but in the end they were not selected. Then I went and it felt great, and I got the job.
I also asked how joel chose issac (male lead).
Joel just blablabla a big deal of nonsense like he must, and then he said that after watching the movie, you will know why he is the only candidate for this role.
Then asked Issac if the two Coen brothers disagree on the set.
Issac said yes, so every time whoever came to me last, I acted according to who said. (Ethan is smiling so cute this time, I guess with a dark belly that he must secretly pull the actor to face-to-face advice every time before turning on the machine)

I am still very excited to see the Coen brothers, although I am not a big fan of them, I am still very calm For a moment.
