The story told in the film is nothing special, nothing more than a closed school, a group of rebellious and talented teenagers, a brutal headmaster, and a teacher with wisdom, compassion, and a maverick teaching method. So it doesn't make sense to spend pen and ink talking about this movie, what I'm going to talk about is this kind of movie. This type of film has a common name, called inspirational films.
This type of film usually has a prop as a link throughout, such as music. Music-themed films include Meryl Streep's "A String to My Heart", Richard Dreyfuss's "Hawk". "Mr. Lan's Movement" and this "Spring in the Cattle Class"; another example is sports, the number of sports-themed aspirational films is the largest, and the one that impressed me the most is "Remember the Giants" starring Denzel Washington. And the British film Chariots of Fire; and literature, such as the great Spring Breeze. There are also films with the theme of one-on-one teachers and students, such as the well-known "Good Will Hunter" and "Soul Visitor".
The main task of inspirational films is to explore the choice of outlook on life in the growth of young people. What kind of life path is the right one? Under this issue, almost all inspirational films hold a negative attitude towards mainstream education methods. Every film conveys the ideas of freedom, equality, and fraternity, the passion of youth, the struggle for freedom, getting rid of the shackles of dogma, and resisting the oppression of teachers. In the film, the students' pursuit of freedom may succeed or fail. But the spirit of freedom and the mentality of equality have been deeply rooted in their hearts and will guide their life path throughout their lives. At the end of "Spring Breeze and Rain", when I saw the students standing high on the desk and shouting: "Captain! My Captain!" The classic line from : Some birds can't be closed after all, because their wings are covered with the brilliance of freedom.
Of course, not all children's movies are inspirational movies. In some movies, teachers are powerless to face children's problems. For example, "Dangerous Game" starring Michelle Pfeiffer ends with the death of the student. . And the world's most famous children's film, "Goodbye, Children", which won the Venice Golden Lion Award, is heartbreaking to watch.
Regarding how to educate and guide children, Al Pacino's speech in "Scent of a Woman" is the most convincing. I might as well quote it and share it with you.
Slade: "Mr. Sims doesn't need to. He doesn't need to be advertised as 'worthy to be called a Baird', what the hell is that? What's your motto here?" Report classmates, boys Case. Less hidden. Anything like that would be a "burn"? Oh, gentlemen, when the shit hits the fan, some people run away, some stay. This Charlie is facing the fire, and that George is hiding in Dad's big pocket. So what did you do? You're going to reward George and destroy Charlie.
CHASK: Are you done, Mr. Slade?
Slade: No, I'm just warming up. I don't know who is here to study. William. Howard. Taft, Williams. Jennings. Brian, William. Tyre, whoever he is. Their spirits are dead, and if ever there were, are gone now. You are building a rat ship, a whistleblower ship. If you think you are educating these little fish to grow up, you better think again, because I say you are destroying the spirit of indoctrination this academy promotes. When I came in I heard these words, "The cradle of leaders." Oh, when the frame shatters, the cradle will fall, and it's falling now. fell! Makers of men, makers of leaders, pay attention to what kind of leaders you create. I don't know if Charlie's silence was right or wrong today. I'm not a judge or a jury member, but what I can tell you is that he won't betray anyone to buy his future. That's integrity, my friend, that's courage, that's what a leader needs. I am now at a crossroads in my life. I always know where the right path is. I know that, but I didn't go, you know why? Because it's so fucking hard. So now Charlie, he too has come to a crossroads. He chose a path. This is the right way. This is a path built by the principles of personality. Let him continue his journey. Committee, you hold this child's future in your hands. Trust me, this is a precious future. Don't destroy it, protect it. Embrace it. One day you will be proud of it. I promise.
