He was maverick all his life and was as free as the wind. He said, " I can resist anything but temptation. " (I can resist anything but temptation.)

To appreciate English literature, it is impossible to avoid Oscar Wilde. His novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray", the play "Lady Windermere's Fan", and the fairy tale "The Happy Prince" are mandatory works in the English literature history class.

He was born in Ireland and became famous in London, England. Nowadays, when people travel to Dublin, the capital of Ireland, whether they are literary or not, they will go to Trinity College, where he studied and produced many famous people, and Merrion Square, which has a sculpture of Wilde near the college. Wilde was born and raised here, and the poetic island of Ireland gave birth to this brilliant writer.

The movie "Wilde"

During the Spring Festival retreat, I stayed at home and watched a lot of movies and documentaries. The 1997 film "Wilde" was a recommendation that appeared on a video website because I had just watched Jude Law's "Contagion" in 2011. At that time, the handsome guy had not yet become an uncle with a hairline in a hurry, and played a grinding goblin, Wilde's lover Bosie Douglas (Bosie Douglas).

The film restores Wilde's emotional relationship that changed the trajectory of his life. Tall and well-dressed playwright Wilde was an iconic figure in London society. "Lady Windermere's Fan" became an instant hit, and he made some young same-sex friends at the time of the scene, and opened his " Greek-Platonic love of older men for younger men ", and later he met Young Jiao Percy Douglas, Lord of Beauty, "Lily of lily" in his poem.

Percy is like a spoiled child, greedy for Wilde's talent and fame, but blindly indulging in pleasures, squandering the writer's manuscript fee, but when the writer is ill, he is unwilling to pour him a glass of cold water, cruel and cruel again and again. Hurts him, "It's disgusting that you're lying in bed like an idiot, and you're just like that when you're in good shape. If you can't go out with me now, I'm going to the hotel with two young boys, I'll send you the bill."

For such a scumbag lover, Wilde repeatedly forgave him, until he was brought to court by Percy's father, who was imprisoned for two years for a cold and suffered a lot. After being released from prison, he wanted to get back with Posey, but he was soon dumped. At the age of 46, he died in a cheap hotel in Paris due to illness. His reputation was ruined, and his family was destroyed. (After Wilde's death, Percy lived a good 45 years without being affected at all. You are not angry.)

And what about those who loved Wilde? His wife Constance, who was born into a wealthy family, gave birth to two sons for him and brought him up and finally died of poverty. After he was imprisoned, he was still unwilling to divorce him. His first gay man, Robert, was by his side, caring for him and accompanying him until the end of his life.

It's a pity that they are not the people in his heart.

Wilde left countless poisonous words and poisonous chicken soup in his life. Between humor and humor, he saw through the world, but he still couldn't live his life well. For example, the following two sentences also appear as narration in the film:

1. There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.

There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what you want, and the other is getting what you want.

(How lucky he would have been if he hadn't met Percy and got him.)

2. One man's poem is another man's poison.

" One man's psalm is another man's poison. " (A's honey, B's arsenic.)

Tracing his footsteps in Dublin

Picture taken by myself

Last October, I went to Dublin to visit the statue of Wilde that once appeared in the English literature teacher's courseware, right at the entrance of Merrion Park. He was born in an apartment in Merrion Square across a narrow road. I only saw the exterior of the building, which was occupied by a project team of the Faculty of Letters at that time and was no longer open to the public.

In the sculpture, he has a Hong Kong style Aaron Kwok, a pair of long legs that stand out from the crowd, and an exaggerated pink and green suit jacket, which is also very eye-catching today. In my impression, the wind was very strong in Ireland that day, and it blew the literary youth into a unkempt youth.

The famous Irish coffee recipe is made by adding whisky to the coffee. Life can't go on without a drink. (There are similar bitter lines in the movie, after he gets out of prison.)

Left: A keychain with Wilde's phrase in the Trinity College souvenir shop.

Right: Random walk into a Dublin bookstore to see Wilde's portfolio.

Ireland is his homeland and London is his heartbreak. The works are his epitaphs.
