"Monkey" - a fable of barbarism and civilization

"Monkey", a Colombian film, I don't watch many movies, so I don't know much about this director. Colombia is a country that impresses me with big drug lords and turbulent politics. The social status quo of the country is also the background of the film - the guerrillas established by the rebels lurk in the mountains, train, fight, and take hostages.

The name of the movie is full of allegorical colors. The word monkey in the movie refers to the protagonists. Their superiors will shout on the radio, monkeys, please answer. So, what is a monkey, a primate that is very similar to humans. In "No Man's Land", it is considered that the biggest difference between humans and humans is whether they can use fire.

Along this line of thought, the use of fire led humans to start eating cooked food, and eating civilization may be the origin of all civilizations. Therefore, the name of the film not only designates the identity of the protagonist - a guerrilla, but also vaguely points to barbarism and civilization.

The film is very magical in South America, and at the same time it is shocking. On a high mountain, there are several young guerrillas stationed. They say they are team members. In fact, they are just a few half-year-old children. Their task here is very simple, to detain an American female doctor. Most of the time, there is no rigid relationship between guards and prisoners, and there is even some childish indulgence. One of their children's fifteenth birthdays was celebrated by giving him a few lashes each, with a friendly invitation to the Doctor for the last lash. I don't know the customs in Latin America, whether this flogging is a national custom or a specific etiquette in the guerrillas. In ancient China, when a man became an adult, he had to wear his hair and crown. In fact, it meant that he had to bear a lot of things on his head and formally entered a ceremonial society; some tribes in Africa would let a man go hunting when he was an adult, which means bravery. and work independently, so what does it mean to be whipped? There is a lot of room for interpretation, obedience in the absolute sense, or to be severely beaten by the society?

The monkeys in the mountains are subject to inspection by a small superior at regular intervals, tactical training or some brainwashing education. Interestingly, they even have to ask their superiors and get approval for such things as the object of their conversation. One day, the little superior sent a cow and explained that it was borrowed, milking it every day to replenish its body, and taking good care of the cow, because when the time came, it would be returned.

Here, the story begins to move towards the climax of magical reality. Although the young warriors carried guns, they were still children at heart. In a hi-pi, the flying bullets killed the cow.

The captain shot himself out of fear. Those who stayed in this way naturally pushed the problem of cows to the dead. There is a small interlude here, the captain's partner, the one who asked forward to the leader and got approval, initially disagreed. A team member said lightly - she is lacking a new partner. (probably means this). Another boy followed naturally.

The cow thing is over, but the big trouble is still to come. The doctor who has been guarding the prison escaped in the chaos. Although he was chased back, the little leader still came to give important instructions. At this juncture, he said that the cow was missed. The problem.

Out of fear, the succeeding captain killed the little leader and imprisoned the curly-haired guy who had reported earlier. The reassembled team, without their direct superiors, is obviously a lot of lax. The infighting has also made their relationship more subtle. It didn't take long for deserters to appear. Because of internal conflicts, the female doctor ran away again and was killed easily. guarding his little girl.

The story is coming to an end here, a team is completely defeated, and the last scene of the movie is the scene of the deserter being caught on the plane, facing the late enemy instructions, and the tears are spinning.

On the whole, "Monkey" is not very good in terms of plot. It is a very ordinary linear narrative, and it is even a bit bland when it comes to the matter. The master's handwriting it shows lies in the particularity of the characters themselves and the particularity of the environment.

The monkey is still a child, that's the theme of the movie. With guns, they can kill several civilians extremely professionally. They are as skilled as wild beasts. Unprincipled violence is itself a beast of prey. Similarly, the way to restrain savagery is to be rougher and more savage, which is a reasonable explanation for why a cow can take two lives. The backside of their fear shows that beyond this mountain, it is more savage. system.

Likewise, in order to escape, the Doctor mercilessly killed the little girl who was guarding her. At the moment of the murder, I couldn't find the picture of the previous game together in my mind. In a savage land, where human relations are so weak, the only way to conquer savagery is to be more savage.

The film "Monkey" is more like an allegory in Latin America. When the camera is slowly given to the rainforest and river, the beauty and abundance are written there, and where is his way out. The image of the female doctor may represent the power of the great power behind him. The civilization they keep talking about is actually just covering up the essence of barbarism. In the confrontation between barbarism and barbarism, it will only evolve into a vicious circle where the Tao is one foot higher and the devil is one foot higher. Under such a cycle, going forward one after another, there will be countless monkeys appearing.

    I don't like it, maybe it's because I'm in a bad mood.

How splendid the jungle is and how uncivilized humans are. I never thought that I would know the inside of a rebel army in this way. The audiovisual is unparalleled. The soundtrack is amazing
