This is a film about growth. It has various problems and emotions in youth. The story is simple or even cliché, but it hits the heart and reaches the soul. The movie is very natural, especially in the first half. The interaction and communication between the male and female protagonists make people feel very natural and comfortable, real and relaxed.
The protagonist Sartre met the heroine, kind, kind and innocent Amy in an early morning after being drunk. In the process of getting along, Sartre gradually fell in love with her. Amy and he have many similar living conditions: the relationship with his mother or family is not close, and he has lost the role of father since he was a child. Amy's father passed away early, and Sartre's parents divorced when he was very young. His father went away and never contacted him. In his mother's mouth, his father was a jerk.
Sartre is a seemingly unlearned, alcoholic, and self-indulgent teenager. He is a bit well-known in school circles, always able to stir up the atmosphere, and claims to be the king of the party. He is very attractive to girls, his tongue is smooth, and the famous saying in life is to live in the moment. He doesn't look like a real person. Even good friends feel that he is just for fun. Sometimes he chooses to avoid her when he gets along with Amy, and he sometimes avoids something.
His father has always been a knot in Sartre's heart. With Amy's support, they went to visit this long-lost and lost family role together. The story that happened afterwards disappointed Sartre, just as his mother said that his father was a selfish person. Sartre was lost at this moment. He was angry and drove Amy out of the car. He told Amy that he was not treating her as well as she thought, and let her leave. He saw his shadow from his father, who was like a mirror, reflecting his life. Living in the present and playing the world as well, he seems to see that when he grows up, he will become this kind of person who hasn't worked and lacked a sense of responsibility.
Why is Sartre like this? I think it is because of his family. Because his father had left Sartre when he was a child, the only memory was comfort in his heart. The family’s incompleteness and lack made him isolate himself. His heart is actually fragile and sensitive. He is afraid of growing up and losing. He has no hope of happiness in marriage. He is afraid of establishing a real relationship with others. Intimacy, because when this kind of emotion really complements each other, once there are some subtle problems, the damage may be huge, and he is afraid of such damage or loss. So he never made any promises and future, so he put himself into a cynical and bohemian image, in order to avoid deeper involvement and future. He built a high wall for himself to protect his fragile heart, but this high wall is actually so weak that it can be broken with a single blow. Sartre is very kind in heart, but he doesn't know it or admit it, he has a cage for himself. As he himself said: "The real challenges and setbacks in my life have always been me. I never stop being afraid, afraid of disappointing, afraid of hurting others, afraid of being hurt, if I can't feel it, I won’t be harmed. As a result, I messed up. Not only did I isolate myself from pain, but all other good and bad things were also isolated from me. In the end, I had nothing."
Good movies can always shine into life and reflect reality. We can see some of ourselves in this work, especially Sartre. I found my shadow from it. I also have an incomplete family environment. There are missing bits in my incomplete memory. Sartre is to turn himself into a bohemian, casual image, this is his way. And these brokenness made me more introverted and withdrawn. I deal with people as little as possible. I was also afraid of disappointing and hurting others. I also built a wall for myself. I shut myself up. NS. This is my way.
Fortunately, none of these experiences made us so bad.
At the end of the story, Sartre understood. He decided to go straight ahead and face the distance. He came to Amy's academy, and the two looked at each other, with mixed emotions. Youth is like this, there are joys and laughter, pain and confusion, in the end we will grow up and grow up slowly.
Don't just think about how to look forward to the present and live in the present, because we always need to learn how to look forward to and embrace the future.
