Before writing this drama review, I should first clarify some basic principles that need to be observed when reading this drama review: the drama is brain-burning, analysis is not easy, and watch it and cherish it. research. Of course, all speculation and analysis do not represent subjective and objective plots. It’s still the same old saying, the beanies who are anti-essential, picky, vicious, jealous, angry and hateful will either block me or ignore my drama reviews. I welcome the kind advice of my friends, and I am very grateful. I hope that all Douyou and some viewers who can understand Chinese can consciously abide by it, thank you for your understanding and support.
During the Spring Festival holiday, in an extraordinary period, in order not to cause trouble to the country, and for the sake of my own health, I can only watch dramas at home. This special Spring Festival is fortunate to have two HBO dramas to accompany me, one of which is the supernatural fantasy thriller "The Outsider" based on Stephen King's best-selling novel of the same name. After watching 2 episodes, I feel good, the whole process is straight to the point, there are not many ramblings off-topic, the case is very strange, and you must not be confused by appearances. As an old rule, I will reason and analyze with everyone to see the introduction of some representative characters in the first two episodes, suspense and thriller points, reasonable guesses about the murderer, and the development trend of the plot.
(1) The ins and outs of the murder case.
a. The background of the story is constructed in the virtual Flint City, Oklahoma. A middle-aged man with a habit of walking his dog in the evening one day he and his dog found the body of an 11-year-old boy with a horrific, scary, and incomplete body. Detective Ralph Anderson began investigating the case. He has two assistants, one is a potbellied female police detective Tamika who is about to give birth (EP02 gave birth to a son successfully) (she will be called Little T in the follow-up drama review), and the other is a police officer from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Yunis Sablo) may have a little secret about the policeman, I will highlight it in future drama reviews).
b. The victim's name is Frankie Peterson, who just turned 11 years old this year. He lives in a nearby town with his father, Fred Peterson, his mother, Joy Peterson, and his brother, Ollie Peterson. The state of his death can be described as inhuman, unsightly, and bloody horror. After a preliminary examination, it was found that Frankie was raped and then killed by the murderer, and then dismembered. Torso tissue torn with tooth marks on the edges. The most weird and frightening thing is that these tooth marks are not bitten by large animals such as wild wolves or tigers, but people. There are already doubts here, people bite people? Who's teeth are as sharp and tough as a beast? Blood-sucking meat? ????. Who the hell killed Frankie? Pedophiles are inferior to beasts? The cult organization's alternative sacrifice (the thrilling method of paying homage to the devil)? Or did someone have a grudge against the Fred Peterson family, and vented this terrifying resentment on Fred's youngest son, Frankie? The unsolved case is on the verge of breaking out, and Ralph begins to investigate and solve the case.
c. After investigation, Ralph found that Terry Maitland, a very popular English teacher and coach of the Little League, was the sure-fire suspect in the case. Before and after the incident, 5 witnesses identified Terry as Frankie's murderer at the same time. And a white Chevrolet truck at the crime scene was full of Terry's fingerprints, Frankie's blood residue, and Terry's DNA sample information. 5 eyewitnesses, a little black girl saw Terry full of blood; an old lady with vision problems who only drove two miles a week, the old lady witnessed Terry driving a white van take the initiative to chat with Frankie , let Frankie with a broken bicycle chain get into his car; a bodyguard of a strip club (this person used to be a social villain with a few feet in the case), after the incident, Terry looked sloppy and came to The strip club asked the bodyguard to borrow the bathroom for him to put on clean clothes; there was also a female taxi driver. Terry took the initiative to ask the female driver to contact the company's dispatch and take him to the Amtrak show in Dubro, where Terry said he would take the night train to Dallas-Fort Worth. CCTV surveillance video also captured the scene when Terry bought the ticket. Cases where witnesses and evidence are readily available. Ralph had Terry Maitland publicly arrested at a baseball league game.
d. Terry Mailand is usually a very nice baseball coach, kind, honest, good father, good husband. There is a good wife, Glory, and two lovely daughters. The eldest daughter Maya Maitland and the youngest daughter Jessa Maitland. Terry was formerly the baseball coach of Ralph's son Dereck. Dereck died a year ago. Ralph arrested Terry by such extreme and public means because he thought that the death of his son Dereck was probably also caused by Terry (or related to Terry), and he wanted to show people "all over the world" that Terry was hypocritical. It's not as good as the true face of rape and murder of children, using the power of public opinion to force Terry to plead guilty. Ralph's approach is truly unacceptable. An old friend who has known him for decades does not know his true nature, and only looks at the scientific identification evidence that is iron-clad. Some of Terry's actions after the incident were really unusual. Why didn't he think about it before taking action to arrest people? Of course, Ralph's approach can also be understood. Although Ralph is a veteran police officer with rich experience in solving crimes, when he encounters such a child murder case, he will immediately think of his poor son Dereck, who has been murdered for more than a year, but has not yet found the real murderer's son Dereck. Loss of reason under excitement is also understandable. But he didn't take into account the damage to the Terry family by his actions, which may be endless until the real murderer is found.
e. After Terry was taken away by the police on the court, his wife Glory asked Howie Solomon to act as Terry's defense attorney for the first time. After Terry was arrested, in the face of questioning by District Attorney Kenneth Hayes, Terry remained tight-lipped and was unwilling to explain anything. Faced with a mountain of ironclad evidence, Terry was completely bewildered. Before finding conclusive evidence, Terry was temporarily put in jail, awaiting the judge's final sentence.
f. Terry repeatedly stated that he was not the real murderer of Frankie. When Frankie was killed, Terry was not in town, but came to Cape Town with two other teachers to hold a middle school English teacher conference. The video of him speaking and asking questions at the conference was obtained by Howie. The conference was held at the Babcock Hotel. Howie's assistant, Alex Pelley, got the information of the CCTV surveillance video of the hotel at that time, and there was indeed Terry in it. The bookstore that Terry visited later, Ralph personally came here to investigate the situation. The proprietress of the bookstore clearly remembered that Terry had visited her bookstore seven days ago and touched a valuable book with a red cover. Ralph bought the book back and completely extracted Terry's fingerprints on the cover of the book. Is Terry really wronged? On March 30, 2019, on the day of the crime, Terry couldn't have been able to do it. He would have a meeting and then "fly back" to his hometown to commit the crime and kill Frankie, right? But how to interpret all the matching fingerprint and DNA data under scientific identification?
g. On the day of the trial, because the influence of the case is too great. Although Howie's side obtained the powerful video and video materials of Terry's participation in the meeting, Kenneth and Ralph also had iron-clad physical and human evidence. Faced with such contradictory and extreme evidence, Terry strongly denied that he was a murderer at the moment before his death. When a man is about to die, his words are also good. While Terry was in custody, Ralph visited Terry once at night. Terry actually really appreciates and likes Dereck (Ralph's son) who has brought him from "kayak" to a great hitter. After Terry's arrest, Terry's heart bleeds when Ralph asks him if he's "played" Dereck before. The feeling of being wronged, and the feeling of being wronged by an old friend really made him feel so uncomfortable. So he was silent, depressed, mourning, and heartbroken. He felt so depressed, how could there be a "damn" white van? How could he "run away" and go back to kill and dismember the body when he was in a meeting in a different place? In fact, it wasn't just Terry who felt puzzled, but Ralph as well. Ralph asked Terry three questions individually. Was there any physical or non-physical contact with Frankie on the day of the crime? Did Frankie kidnap with a white van on the day of the crime? Did you rape and kill Frankie? The answers he got were Terry's righteous words and sincere denials.
h. Poor Terry was directly shot by Frankie's brother Ollie before the trial. The moment Terry was dying, his last words were not to his wife Glory, but to Ralph. "I didn't kill him! I didn't go there! Not me! Not me!" Ralph eventually shot Ollie. The Fred family is really miserable. Joy first heard the terrible news that his son Frankie had been killed, and then asked Terry, why did he kill Frankie? Terry's grief is more than his unexplained death; the police won't let Joy pick up his son's body; Frankie's funeral, which is all from Jane, grief and depression, all push Joy (Frankie and Ollie's mother) into the abyss. Joy died of a heart attack (presumably a myocardial infarction) after Frankie's funeral, while picking up a baseball bat and swinging to vent her wickedness and sadness to the top. A family that was originally complete and beautiful suddenly lost his wife, mother, and younger brother. How could Fred and his son feel so bad? Ollie couldn't bear such a huge and unbearable pain, so just before Terry was about to be tried in court, he directly killed Terry. It makes sense that Ralph shot Ollie. Because at that time, in addition to shooting Terry, Ollie also shot the right calf of Ralph's assistant, Little T, who was about to give birth. Little T gave birth to a son after a difficult natural birth with a fractured right calf.
i. Fred Peterson, whose whole family died unexpectedly, had no love for life and wanted to commit suicide. He finally entered the ICU (intensive care unit) and temporarily became a vegetative state with a breath. Of course, life is at risk anytime, anywhere.
(2) The suspense and thriller point.
a. DNA evidence cannot be forged; fingerprint evidence cannot be forged either; blood samples cannot be forged (blood samples of the murderer and the victim); video evidence can be forged, but how can the organizer who is not clear about the ins and outs of the case alter the video records of the meeting; red How to forge Terry's complete fingerprint on the book; Terry does not have twin brothers, and even twin brothers cannot have the exact same DNA sequence, fingerprint information, and blood samples; Terry is not a "Maoshan Taoist", and will kill people like a soul out of body; Terry I have never seen the white Van full of physical evidence; after Terry committed murder, he met a little black girl, why didn't he kill her to silence her; Terry should have fled the town to hide in Tibet as soon as he killed him, why should he Came to the strip club nightclub and deliberately swaggered across the city; after Terry took a Taxi, why did the female driver notify the company for dispatching, and he had already received him; Terry did not buy a train ticket to leave the town, and there was no information about a round-trip ticket; why did Terry deliberately At the CCTV surveillance station where the ticket was purchased, Terry even made an indecent gesture towards the camera and raised his middle finger at the camera at the CCTV surveillance video station at the ticket window of the station. Terry's series of actions is so incredible that Ralph once thought he was contempt, provocation, teasing, and tricking the police.
b. Terry still refused to admit that he had committed a heinous crime against Frankie at the moment of his death; Terry's witnesses who were not at the scene of the crime; Terry's last heart-to-heart conversation with Ralph; Hearing is false, but seeing is not necessarily true. Ralph, Kenneth, and Yunis are now beginning to suspect that what they believed before was actually a deliberate "catch-up" by the real murderer.
c. When Terry's house was raided by the police for the first time, did you notice that one of the crowd outside the house was wearing a gray-blue sweater, blue jeans, and a hat, and his face seemed to be left by the fire Weird man with ugly scars? It's no surprise that this man is the real murderer.
d. When Fred Peterson committed suicide by hanging in his bedroom, the strange man mentioned in point "c" was wandering outside his house.
e, Terry and Glory's youngest daughter Jessa has been having nightmares since Terry's death, dreaming of a terrifying man who threatened her and said some very scary words to her. The key point here is that Jessa should not have frequent nightmares, but that she can see the strange man mentioned in the above "c" and "d" points at the same time, and the strange man has been intimidating her. Because Jessa is relatively young, she can see some alien monsters that others can't see with the naked eye. Before the end of EP02, Jessa should have seen this weird guy again. The strange man told her that Terry's death was "a good thing", which is why Jessa was so emotional. After Jessa left the bedroom, the pool of blood on the floor was actually left by the weird man.
f. Personally, there are reasonable reasons to suspect that Ollie's shooting of Terry and Fred's suicide may all be the result of this strange man's "gaslight manipulation". The strange man also appeared at the scene of the shooting. A knowledge point in popular science, what kind of psychological manipulation is the "gaslight manipulation method"? It’s a form of emotional manipulation, and its effects don’t happen overnight, but slowly permeate through the day-to-day. In the process of manipulation, the manipulator will deliberately distort the facts, selectively omit them, or directly instill false information into the other party. Gradually, the manipulated person doubts his own memory, cognition, mental state, and even the worth of his entire self. In the end, they are forced to trust the manipulators, allowing them to manipulate their own emotions and behavior. The strange man is actually the devil who killed Frankie. As for what kind of "alien creature" he is, it will be specifically mentioned in the drama review below.
(3), Ralph's remedial measures.
a. Ralph finally realized that the murder of Frankie might be a supernatural phenomenon, and an evil force that could not be explained by modern science made Terry a scapegoat and killed Frankie and even other children in place of the strange man. Here's the point again, Ralph's boss, Jack, was on vacation. Isn't he hunting in the wild? The wild boar was his prey. Because there was a case of Terry's assassination in the bureau, and there was no leader, Jack received the news and could only cancel the vacation in advance and return to the police station. In EP02, the camera gave a close-up of the wild boar, and the death was terrifying, as if it was eaten by blood and meat. It was not someone else who killed this wild boar, it must have something to do with this weird man.
b. Ralph and Yunis intend to re-investigate the case. Yunis found that the white Chevrolet Van at the scene of the crime was not a Georgia license plate, but a New York license plate number. This is a stolen deck car. The car thief was Merlin, a 12-year-old boy who suffered severe domestic violence and lived on the streets, relying on stealing for a living. Half a poster on the white van caught Ralph's attention. Ralph's wife found the flyer, and it turned out to be an advertisement for a Dayton restaurant called Big Daddy's Hungry Grill. The Terry family vacationed in Dayton from March 3 to March 7, 2019.
c. Merlin provides some important clues to Ralph and Yunis. It was the first car he stole, and he did drive the white Van back from New York, stopping in an underground parking lot in Dayton on the way. There is a baseball card shop near that parking lot. He'd been to a convenience store where the female clerk behind the counter had a small TV on. She has an X-shaped dark spot on her forehead. There was a man in the parking lot with a similar dark spot on his forehead. There was also a little girl about Merlin's age who had just come out of McDonald's or KFC. Personally, there are reasonable reasons to suspect that these three people are very likely to be with the strange man.
d. Maya, Terry's eldest daughter, also provides some important clues to Ralph. The Terry family went to Dayton for vacation because Terry's father lived in a Dayton nursing home. Terry went to visit his father and his arm was cut. It was cut by a male nurse in the nursing home. He was walking down the hallway when the ground slipped and hit the male nurse. He grabbed the male nurse's hand when he fell, but when he got up, he saw a gap on his wrist. There is indeed a Big Daddy Crazy Hungry BBQ restaurant near the hotel where they live, which is what Maya calls a "pig restaurant". Terry later put medication on his arm to cover the wound.
e. At the end of EP02, a boy found in a barren grain warehouse in the suburbs a suit of clothes that Terry had put on in the bathroom of the strip shop, which was sitting on a pile of grass. Personally, I have reason to suspect that this place is the temporary residence of the strange man. The strange man should be the male nurse who accidentally cut his arm in Terry's father's nursing home. It is very likely that Dereck was also killed by this strange man's vampire.
f. In the next episode, because Little T is going to have confinement after giving birth, he cannot investigate the case with Ralph. There's supposed to be a private investigator, Holly Gibney, involved, with Ralph on the hunt for the truth.
(4) The identities of strange men and people with X-shaped black spots on their foreheads.
a. I originally thought that the "Terry" who killed Frankie should be a demon who had the same appearance and other physical characteristics as Terry from another parallel world. Poor Terry Maitland is its puppet, the "outsider" it maliciously manipulates. Later, when I found the pool of blood left on the floor of Jessa's room and Terry's accidental wrist cut by a strange man, I found out that it wasn't a criminal-laden demon from another parallel world that killed Frankie. It's an alien-like vampire creature. This vampire is the weird man mentioned above. He mainly survives by absorbing human blood and the negative seven deadly sins. As soon as he came into contact with the person's DNA blood sample, he would instantly acquire the person's appearance and part of his memory. The entire mutation process takes a while to complete completely. So the weird man we saw had a terrified face similar to being burned by a fire.
b. There should be scapegoat outsiders like Terry in the future. This weird man is now in a dormant period, and he hasn't sucked blood for a long time. It is estimated that he is hiding in a remote corner, ready to move. Because he hadn't sucked blood for a long time, he didn't even spare the blood of wild boars. This kind of alien vampire killer probably prefers to eat children, watching the sadness and pain of the children's family members, swallowing them completely. This thing is an alien-eating vampire monster.
c. That private detective, Holly Gibney, should know some legends about Mexican vampires. She will investigate the case together with Ralph, and finally find the vampire's lair and destroy the vampire in one fell swoop.
d. It is very likely that the "infernal affairs" of this evil supernatural force vampires will appear in the police station. Personally, I have reason to suspect that this person may be Ralph's boss Jack. His purpose is to make a deal with the devil and hinder Ralph and the private investigator from investigating the case. Righteousness must triumph over evil. This vampire killer seems to use people's negative emotions and some of the seven deadly sins to suck blood, possess, transform, and transform, so "The Outsider" is somewhat similar to the thriller and suspense Korean drama "Ghost Guest" produced by OCN.
Definitely give this series a temporary 5? praise.
a. I understand the title of "The Outsider". Alien vampires use the appearance of the earth and some memories to kill and set fire to all evils. Stephen King's novel would be a bit low if the focus and suspense were placed on the parallel world. If it's a vampire, it's pretty interesting. As soon as an alien vampire touches someone's DNA, he can gain that person's negative powers, all biological physical characteristics, and part of his memory. The mystery of the parallel world is temporarily unsolved, but vampires can be eliminated. When I was a child, I watched a lot of Hong Kong movies like "Zombie Daoist" and "Uncle Zombie". We have Maoshan Taoist priests catching zombies. Now let's see how foreigners catch vampires.
b. After watching the first two EPs, the sense of rhythm is well grasped. There is almost no urine point in the whole process. Watched 2 episodes in one go. The first season is about 10 episodes, and it is estimated that there will be a second season and a third and fourth season.
c. Although it is still a series of unsolved cases, there are still a variety of human nature in the series. Terry's extraordinary grievance; Ralph's wrongs can be corrected; Glory's consistent trust in Terry; Ralph's loss of his child; Innocent; people are jealous of evil, and some people in the police station are "the devil's spokesperson". Definitely a good show worth watching.
d. The sci-fi part should not be shown too vividly, but should be reflected in the weird cunning of vampires to disturb people's hearts, and what kind of tricks the righteous people will use to eliminate them when the vampires and the righteous are fighting. The first two episodes continue to tell us a truth. The negative things of human beings allow the aliens to take advantage of the opportunity to enter, wearing the cloak of human beings, and committing all evils. Terry and these ghosts are even more wronged than Dou E. So, we should be positive and optimistic, and not be dragged down by some bad desires and negative emotions, so that even the devil can't do anything about us. HBO is stable, and the adaptation is not difficult. ????.
To be continued.
