When Max performed a task to check his wife's innocence even though he was extremely painful, and chose to forgive and flee after learning the truth, he was unwilling to betray the country or abandon his love. I was moved. This is a contradiction between personal interests and national interests.
In the end, in these three contradictions, the film values did not favor one side, which is also the most ingenious part in my opinion. The film will not give you the answer, it gives the audience a lot of freedom to think and evaluate, which is very rare.
