everything is grace

It's a pity that I don't know French, and many translations are weird. Saw it a few years ago and was very impressed.

Matthew 11:7 When they were gone, Jesus spoke to the crowd about John, saying, What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed blown by the wind? What are you going out to see? The one who wears soft clothes? Behold, the man in the soft clothes is in the palace.

What are you watching this movie for? Many people came in the name of Bresson. But if you are an unbeliever, you will definitely find this story boring and the pastor a failure.

As a person who serves God, the pastor has experienced countless tortures such as loneliness, illness, misunderstanding, and insomnia in his short life. He has no companions, no comfort, and in many cases, he does not even experience God's comfort. But he struggled to get close to the light, to seek God. Before he died, he said: all is grace. The director deeply understands the essence of the Christian spirit.

Still dull, omniscient, literary, black scene, switching film value, "Bresson makes full use of voice-over as the main means of retelling the original text of the novel. In order to be faithful to the original text, Bresson did not change the conversation recorded by the priest through recollection to dialogue to adapt to the novel. The real dialogue rhythm and balance in the original text makes it buried in the undisturbed recitation."

Bresson's rhythm is still soothing, and moving movements flow quietly under his lens. When the clergy becomes suspicious of their faith and gradually shakes their fear. The so-called evangelists need to be redeemed themselves. They are stoic and restrained, tolerant and loving. Being forcibly castrated off of emotions and desires is useless for any reason.
