A First Look at the US Healthcare System Sicko 1/12/2020

Is there really a fair, objective, authoritative and credible media? Peer-reviewed scientific research articles are probably not counted, everything is political. If you want to know the truth of the world, you can include but not rely on documentaries. You must rely on a lot of reading, independent thinking and analysis, and if possible, your own first-hand feelings.

Coming from China, when I was a student, I was used to going to a large hospital to see a doctor at my own expense, and going to the railway bureau to see a doctor could be reimbursed, but the quality was worrying, so I just went for a physical examination. Later, in the United States, I became accustomed to buying medical insurance provided by schools or companies, and I was only used to large amounts of reimbursement from preventive care. It seems that I have never thought of questioning the systems in which I live. During the election, I heard discussions about obama care, medicare, medicaid and universal health care, but I also subconsciously had nothing to do with myself and never understood it. I've been able to "stay out" like this all the time because I haven't experienced a serious illness, coupled with good savings habits. But not everyone is like that, and these are things that may change for me too. Do I have my own opinion on this? Have you made plans and preparations?

The United States in the documentary is so unbearable that ordinary Americans and the heroes of the 9/11 disaster relief have been repeatedly blocked from the door of the for-profit medical system because of their pain and hardship. The angles chosen by Michael Moore are also "reasonable": what about our neighbors to the north, what about the other first-tier developed countries in Europe and the United States, and what about the familiar and unfamiliar Cuba. The reason is of course a broken system and greedy people - politicians are bought by lobbyists in the medical industry, abandoning the interests of voters and maintaining the bottom line of medical giants. Such logic: one side is pitiful and weak, and the other is strong and dark. People in countries that choose the right path enjoy countless medical benefits, while the American people who are trapped in the quagmire are rescued by Cuban doctors.

Sicko quotes

  • Michael Moore: There are nearly 50 million Americans with no health insurance. They pray every day they don't get sick because 18,000 of them will die this year, simply because they're uninsured. But this movie isn't about them. It's about the 250 million of you who have health insurance. Those of you who are living the American Dream.

  • Michael Moore: I always thought health insurance companies were there to help us. So, I posted a note on the Internet asking people if they had had any similar stories.Within 24 hours, I had over 3,700 responses. And by the end of the week, over 25,000 people had sent me their healthcare horror stories. Some of them decided not to wait for me to get back to them. Like Doug Noe, who took matters into his own hands, without my permission. His daughter was nine months old when they discovered she was going deaf. His health insurance company, CIGNA, said they'd pay for an implant in only one of her ears. According to the letter they sent, it's experimental for her to hear in two ears.
