Not to please others, not to prove yourself.

After several training sessions, Alex gave up his first bare-handed climb of El Capitan halfway. He didn't choose to try hard to please others and prove himself. He only made a choice for his own goals and real situation. The motivation for this decision is absolutely correct.

The motivation brought by the original family education is never good enough, the pursuit of perfection in order to seek mother's approval + the brain's insensitivity to fear + long-term professional training, so that Alex has the ability to continue to challenge free rock climbing.

Knowing that Uri, a speed climber who died near Mount Everest, Alex said: To be honest, I am not surprised that Uri died because he always does crazy and dangerous things, but I thought he would survive. Uri once said, "Always force yourself on a difficult climb" and I've always tried to avoid it. I always trying not to. But then when it comes to the hitchhiking route, I think I should bite the bullet and climb once, as long as I don't have too much luck.

I think for 99.9999% of people, I always trying not to be more important. It's not easy to be an ordinary person. You need to be sober to avoid the risk of sudden breakdown in your life.
