As a wife, being kind, sincere, humble and dignified is more important than any wit and beauty.

Synopsis

A young girl (Joan Fontaine) (hereafter called Little Butterfly) is Mrs. Fan's entourage, and she meets the handsome Mr. Derwent (Laurence Oliver) while she is traveling with Mrs. Fan in Mont, France.

Mr. Derwent is the owner of Mandori Manor, a young rich man, who is deeply attracted to the little butterfly.

And the innocence and kindness of the little butterfly also made Derwent like it very much, and the two fell in love like this.

After that, Little Butterfly said goodbye to Mrs. Fan and married Derwent Lightning, and followed him to Mandori Manor to become the hostess.

The little butterfly who came to Mandoli for the first time was taken aback by the servants. Born into poverty, she had never seen Nuoda's manor and so many servants.

The housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers (Judith Anderson), dressed in black, has a serious expression and an indescribable feeling in her eyes, which makes the little butterfly especially afraid.

Derwent had a marriage, and his ex-wife Rebecca had passed away, but there were still traces of her in the mandala, and the west wing where Rebecca lived before was forbidden to anyone.

Little Butterfly was very curious about what kind of woman Rebecca was and how she died, so she often asked people in the manor.

In the process of getting to know her, she learned that Rebecca was a beautiful and wise woman, but died unexpectedly in a sea trip. And Mrs Danvers adored Rebecca.

Little Butterfly felt that she was inferior to Rebecca. She was even more insecure. She was afraid that Derwent would not love her, so she tried to change her dress to please Derwent.

But it didn't get better, and the two still lived in the shadow of Rebecca.

Finally, Little Butterfly summoned the courage, and she proposed to Mrs. Danvers to replace everything related to Rebecca.

Mrs. Danvers was very reluctant, but after all, Little Butterfly was the hostess now, she could only agree, but there seemed to be a hint of malice in her eyes.

At a masquerade party, Little Butterfly, on the advice of Mrs. Danvers, was dressed as a woman in a drawing in the living room.

But Derwent was furious. It turned out that Rebecca had worn the dress in the painting. Little Butterfly was very sad. She went to ask Mrs. Danvers why she lied to her.

But Mrs Danvers said that Derwent didn't love her at all, he only loved Rebecca, and just as Little Butterfly was devastated, news of the shipwreck came from the sea.

A boat hit a rock in the sea near Mandori Manor, everyone ran to rescue, and Little Butterfly, worried about Derwent's safety, also chased out.

There was a corpse on the ship that hit the rocks, and it was verified that it was Rebecca. The news surprised Little Butterfly. If this was Rebecca, who was the woman who died before...

Video Analysis

"Butterfly Dream" is adapted from the suspense novel "Rebecca". It is the first movie that Xi Fat came to Hollywood to make, and it is also one of his most outstanding masterpieces.

The commercial art of the film coexists, and it is a very complete work in terms of character depiction, plot setting, atmosphere contrast and other aspects.

The rhythm of the film is slow, and Xi Pang uses his superb atmosphere rendering skills to create a thrilling and suspenseful atmosphere, and fills the gaps in the plot through a large number of psychological descriptions of characters.

As the big BOSS in the film, Rebecca never appeared from the beginning to the end. Xi Fatt let the audience enter the plot through a unique perspective, and used the same imagination as the heroine, wondering what this mysterious heroine looks like, like this The setting is very special and interesting.

The performances of the actors in the film are very good. The male lead is in charge of handsomeness and the female lead is in charge of beauty. The most impressive thing is the ghostly housekeeper, whose every appearance makes people's heart beat faster. The nightmarish expression and morbid behavior not only made the heroine feel scared, but also transmitted this fear to the audience.

Here is a Cinderella story:

The heroine in the film is kind, sincere, humble, and beautiful, but the key point is that she is not confident at all. This kind of inferiority comes from the difference in class. Probably in her heart, there is a great distance between poor children and rich people.

Married into a wealthy family, she is afraid every day, afraid that this is just a dream of Nanke, and she will lose everything when she wakes up, especially losing the prince, she is extremely insecure. However, in the face of ridicule and fright, she survived. She always maintained a positive and kind attitude, longing for a better life, and chose to fight against evil forces.

In the end, our heroine defeated the evil with innocence and gained beautiful love. But Cinderella in the fairy tale ends up living in the prince's castle, and a fire in reality burns out our fantasy. Fairy tales can be perfect, but reality must be incomplete.
