Some analysis of the case itself and my own opinions are welcome to correct me. (pure personal opinion)
The outline of the story will not be repeated here, and directly enter the analysis.
Total spoilers, be careful.
The story opens with the police chasing a man in grey who is running away, and kicks off with the discovery of a body. It is inevitable that you will feel a little dizzy in the process of watching. For a while, it is the memory of the male protagonist (the name is too long, which will be referred to as the male protagonist in the following text), and the memory of the female protagonist Maya (hereinafter referred to as Maya) is also interspersed with various The testimony of others and scattered clues, at first glance, it feels like a pot of fresh soup with too many seasonings, which is turbid.
However, we now split each piece of testimony, and then reassemble it by person, we can temporarily get the following clear context:
The first is the male protagonist's statement:
The male protagonist is a British Indian writer. In order to let his wife, who is the president of the publishing house, have a good rest, he did not let her participate in his new book launch at 7:30. After returning home, he found his wife dead on the ground, so he called the police. He ran away in fear as the police prepared to take him back to the police station for questioning. He was injured in a car crash on the way to escape, and had to find a nearby family for help, which happened to be Maya's family. During this period, Maya learned that he was a fugitive suspect. Not only was she not afraid, but she drove away the housekeeper who served the door. She also took the initiative to bandage his wounds, and even secretly gave him a good show. She also staged a good show with her lover who was halfway through the door, pretending to be her. The husband came to put the blame on him for the murder of his husband (hereafter referred to as the lawyer). When he woke up after being knocked unconscious, the police had already surrounded him.
Then there is Maya's testimony:
When Maya was alone at home, the male protagonist suddenly broke in and kidnapped her cleaning and lover who came to the door; rummaging in her house, and kept asking her if she had a locked cabinet; Maya knew on TV that he was a fugitive suspect Later, while pouring wine for the male protagonist, he stole a flashlight and asked passersby on the street for help under the guise of going to the toilet; he had no choice but to take the opportunity to escape, but he ran too slowly and was dragged back by the male protagonist; The family's lawyer, and ran out to ask for help when the lawyer confronted the male protagonist. When the police arrived at the scene, the male protagonist stood beside him with a bewildered face, while the lawyer was already cool.
Both sides hold their own opinions and the conclusions are contradictory, then it is judged that at least one person has lied.
Now to sort out some of the circumstantial evidence interspersed with it.
1. The testimony of the prototype father in the new book published by the male protagonist. The old father told the sheriff male protagonist to expose his daughter's name in order to sell the book, so that everyone knew about the rape of the daughter, and the public opinion forced the daughter to commit suicide. (Here you can see the hero's character)
2. The testimony of the security guard on duty. The first security guard said that he saw Maya's husband coming home at 7:30, and then he changed his shift at 8:00 to hand over to the next security guard. He was in the toilet all the time, although the lawyer did not go out after that, but obviously his testimony was doubtful - he didn't even see the male protagonist running upstairs. (The time of the husband's first appearance is confirmed)
3. Witness testimony. A couple happened to be opposite the hotel where the male protagonist was staying and filmed the scene of the male protagonist arguing with his wife, after which the wife was killed. In the previous statement, the male protagonist did not confess the quarrel with his wife on the day of the incident. The male protagonist thus Suspicion has grown considerably.
4. The testimony of the lover. The lover confessed that he had an argument with her husband at 7:00, and was pushed over by her husband and knocked down the glass coffee table. After her husband left, he also left, but he was not at ease. After he could not reach Maya on the phone, he returned to Maya's house but was turned away, so he had no choice but to leave. But because he initially lied about not being at the scene of the incident and his true relationship with Maya, the suspicion could not be cleared. At the same time, it also increased the suspicion of Maya.
5. Special events are also key conclusive evidence. It started raining at 11pm on the day of the incident. According to the testimony of the security guard, the lawyer went home at 7:30, and the sheriff deduced from this: If Maya said, then the husband finally came home at 12:00, it must have been raining, so there can be no mud on the shoes; otherwise, If the husband doesn't go out after coming back at 7:30, then the people who killed the lawyer are Maya and her lover. (Tucao: First of all, let’s not say whether my husband has the habit of shining his shoes before entering the house. This apartment is considered a relatively high-end apartment. Is there no paving at the door, and there is mud everywhere? Did the sheriff get out of the car and stepped on the mud, Maya’s husband Does it have to be on the same ground as him? Isn't there a clean ground in this area?!)
You want to say that this case was convicted with solid evidence, and there really isn't. The sheriff's final evidence also does not stand up to scrutiny, but judging from the evidence currently available to the police, this is the best conclusion that makes sense.
First of all, in terms of the motive for committing the crime, the male protagonist has no motive for committing the crime in front of the police, and Maya was discovered by a lawyer because of an affair, so the motive is obvious and the suspicion is the greatest. In addition, according to the evidence at the scene, there was a physical conflict between the real lover and the lawyer (there were bloodstains of the lover at the scene), so the police's conclusion was reasonable and reasonable until the male protagonist did not confess at the end.
If you insist on hard-core analysis with evidence:
First, both the male protagonist and the lover were present at the scene, and both had physical conflicts with the deceased or with each other, and fingerprints and bloodstains were left at the scene; secondly, it was inferred from the wounds that the murderer who killed the lawyer was about the same height as the lawyer, and at most only It can be ruled out that Maya did not act directly, and both the male protagonist and the lover are possible (yes, it is such a coincidence, the height of the victim and the suspect are similar); even if the police discovered the interests of the lawyer and the male protagonist, it only proved that he had sufficient Finally, I see a lot of people say that the male protagonist lied that he was designed to be stunned, so check the bloodstained murder weapon at the scene to see if there is any blood on it. Not to mention that the male protagonist himself was injured in a car accident, it is normal to leave blood on the scene; the weapon that smashed him and the murder weapon that killed the lawyer may not be the same object, and the male protagonist is the kind of person who takes into account the weather factors and destroys important evidence. , such details may have been considered and forged.
However, the investigation by the police is indeed rough. For example, the male protagonist’s behavior is quite suspicious. First of all, after escaping, he turned to Maya for help according to his words. When people seek help in an unfamiliar place, it is the first choice to seek help from the residents on the ground floor, not to mention that there are more than one residents on the first floor from the scene. And Maya's house is obviously at least above the second floor (and the kind that takes the stairs). Under normal circumstances, in order to be rescued as soon as possible, he would choose to be nearby, but the male protagonist went upstairs to ask for help, which is obviously against common sense.
In addition, according to the male protagonist himself, it was only after seeing the text messages with the lawyer on his wife's mobile phone that he realized that the two were jointly going to report him, but the male protagonist found the lawyer's house very smoothly after that. How did he know the lawyer's residence? According to his familiarity, the two sides must have had frequent contacts before, but Maya, who is the wife of a lawyer, does not know him, which is difficult to justify.
Some people may think that in the end, the male protagonist explained that he and the lawyer exchanged shoes. Scratching his feet, he either bought new shoes or wore not his own shoes at all, which echoed the fact that he and his lawyer changed shoes at the end. I feel that in the end, the sheriff was awakened by his wife's words for a second check.
There are also many comments that the police are unprofessional in the investigation process. We are not looking at CSI. Even the sheriff mocks himself that the Indian police will only start the investigation a week after the incident. There is no need to be serious on this point; If there is no conclusive evidence, and everyone is suspected, it depends on whose story is satisfactorily told. The sheriff said that everyone told a good story, and obviously the male protagonist had the best story, so he became the final winner.
In addition, some of the details are about installing lamps, throwing paper rolls, or the conversation between the sheriff and his wife, and the sheriff and the male protagonist telling the story of his brother, etc. I don’t think there is any special deep meaning, maybe Just to enrich the story, or just a misleading narrative trick. I don't want to over-interpret it here.
The case itself is a mystery. only god knows what happened.
