Double insurance

Double insurance.
This is one of the greatest noir films. The film is full of suspense and performs well, but the most important thing is its style, that is, the noir style. Whether it is the shadowy blinds or the self-deprecating monologue, they will have a long-lasting impact on the future of suspense movies. The film adopts a first-person narrative, making the film a relatively complete history of the torment of a fallen man, looking at the American reality before and after the war in a calm and indifferent manner.
------For the classics, you can only quote the classics! Of course, I am more concerned about the fraud and defense methods of that era! Isn’t there a remake of this film? No matter from which point of view, the deception methods designed at that time are still used in the world!
I checked it, and it turned out that the TV version of "Double Compensation" is only a boring color remake. The sound and picture are average, and the picture is 3/4 ratio. The actors can’t compare with the original.

In 1927, there was a sensational murder in New York. The housewife Ruth bought her husband an accident insurance with a double compensation clause for $48,000, and then instigated her lover Gray to murder her husband. The case was quickly solved and the two were sentenced to capital punishment. A reporter secretly took a photo of Ruth's death in an electric chair and posted it on the front page of the newspaper, which caused great controversy. In 1935, writer James Kane wrote the case as a novel "Double Compensation". At 31:42, the film switched to the scene where Neff confessed that there is something like a curtain between each scene, the effect is excellent, and it can be used for reference. At 1:02:58, the conversation was interrupted by an uninvited guest. The arrival of Phyllis prevented Norton from expressing objections to the case. This is a classic delayed use case. The audience began to worry about Norton's conclusion, but they had to wait for the answer to be revealed, which created the most suspenseful effect.

7 points. Maybe it's because there are too many noir films these days, and after 10 minutes, I guessed all the plots behind. This makes the later viewing experience somewhat boring. The lines are well designed (I actually wonder why people in old movies often speak as fast as a machine gun?) The ending is a bit too weak, maybe it would be better if two people shoot each other to death? It's a pity that the line of the victim's daughter did not unfold~~~

Double Indemnity quotes

  • Walter Neff: How could I have known that murder could sometimes smell like honeysuckle?

  • Walter Neff: Suddenly it came over me that everything would go wrong. It sounds crazy, Keyes, but it's true, so help me. I couldn't hear my own footsteps. It was the walk of a dead man.
