——After watching the movie "The Savior"

I. Introduction
I watched this movie in class. It is a very niche movie. I have never heard of it after watching countless movies. After class, it took a lot of time to find its resources. of. Although unpopular and niche, it is also an excellent movie.
The background of the film is the Bosnia and Herzegovina War. It is from April 1992 to December 1995 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, due to the differences between the three main ethnic groups of Serbs, Muslims and Croats over the future and territorial division of Bosnia and Herzegovina. war going on. Director Predrag Antonijevic is now an American, and his birthplace, Niš - now Serbia's second largest city - used to belong to Yugoslavia. Of course, Yugoslavia has long been a thing of the past, and the director also left his hometown and went to the United States, a country where many ethnic groups live together.
The movie revolves around the male protagonist Josh Hua. The film is called "SAVIOR", the Chinese translation is "Savior", also known as "Genocide Battlefield". The so-called "savior" is obviously rescued by Josh Hua, and the direct incarnation of the rescuer in the film is the baby girl of "Muslim blood" born by Vera. As for the translation of the film, I prefer the former, the literal translation retains the meaning of "savior" more, and can better reflect the love and redemption expressed in the film. But the latter translation is not groundless. In this Bosnia and Herzegovina war, one of the goals of the parties involved is to destroy the other's race, which is a war of genocide.
2. Plot summary and personal analysis
The beginning of the film takes place in Paris in 1987, when Josh Hua arrives for a party with his family. He missed the service, but when his son asked him if he believed in God, Josh Hua said that God is everywhere, and he has it in their family; the son asked again, "Do bad people also have it?" Josh Hua was taken aback, and then answered Say, "Yes, there are bad guys too".
Then Josh Hua was called away by his colleagues to deal with a bomb threat provoked by Muslim fundamentalists. As a result, his wife and children were killed in the subsequent bomb attack. A grief-stricken Josh Wah broke into a prayer hall, fired thirteen shots (reminiscent of how unlucky the number "13" is in Western culture), and killed the Muslims who were praying inside. After that, Josh Hua kept his name incognito and stayed in the foreign corps for six years. Until one day, he said to his companion: "I would rather go to a war where I can know what I am fighting for."
In 1993, Josh Hua and his companions came to Bosnia. Here and now, the Bosnian War is going on. Josh Hua joined the Serbian camp to fight with the Orthodox Christians here against the Muslims who believe in Islam.
The description of the war in the film does not seem to be mixed with any emotion. Josh Hua sniped Muslims again and again, including a teenager, and Muslims also let a seemingly innocent little girl kill Josh Hua's companion with a bomb. Human nature seems to have left this land, and love and kindness seem to be absent from the language here. The impression that Josh Hua gave the audience at this time seemed to be just a cold-blooded killer, and the image of a good husband and a good father at the beginning of the film was long gone. However, his hesitation before shooting the Muslim civilian teenager, and his concern for the little Muslim baby in the cupboard, all remind us that our hero is still a good man with his personality intact.
In stark contrast to Josh Hua, is the native Goren, who also belongs to the Serbs. He kills mercilessly, and his distaste for Muslims seems so irresistible that he would hate his unfortunately captured female neighbor so much that he was ready to kill a baby about to be born. Josh Hua killed Goren. For the "bastard" of a Muslim rapist, for the children of the group who had lost his wife and children, he killed his former comrade-in-arms who shared his beliefs and belonged to the same front.
The young child is innocent, and the new life seems to ease all contradictions. After all, man has his good side, even in war. The clean cry of a baby evokes the goodness of humanity numbed by hatred. Family affection finally made Vera accept her daughter, just as Vera's father finally let go of his daughter - in front of love, religious and ethnic conflicts seem so insignificant.
The newborn baby girl becomes the apparent savior in the film. Although the mother Vera did not survive in the end, she died with love in the end. From not wanting this child to sacrificing her family for her, and finally sacrificing herself, Vera's cold heart from being captured was finally warmed. And the male protagonist Josh Hua was obviously "saved". In the end, he and the baby escaped from the war zone and moved towards a bright future. At this time, he was no longer the extremist who hated all Muslims indiscriminately, and he was no longer in the state of nothing after losing his wife and children. He saved a Muslim child, and he also had family and love again.
Third, in general
To sum up, the first and most important theme of this film is anti-war. Josh Hua once said that he would rather go for a war, but in the end he took Vera and the baby girl to escape the hardships of the war land, the shock of Vera's death due to the war, reminds Josh Hua, and also reminds you and me, how much war is cruel. I remember that Vera's family was captured by the enemy in the film. At the home of the couple who kindly took them in, Josh Hua said to Vera: "I'm sorry, your family." Vera didn't say much, "This is war". The family's son, and his son's son, also died in the war. When the old man said that he had nothing to lose, how could there not be sadness and accusations of war behind his calm words!
Cultural diversity can make the world more colorful, and if it is not handled properly, it will also become the fuse of war. The three main ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina and their respective religious sects divide them into three different positions. "Since the outbreak of the Bosnian War, in this small mountain country with an area of only 50,000 square kilometers, Serbs, Croats, and Muslims have attacked each other and killed each other. People who don't know may think that these three ethnic groups have a deep blood feud for generations. In fact, these three ethnic groups were born from the same root, and they still use the same language." The three parties involved in the war originally belonged to Yugoslavia and could have lived together peacefully for generations, but due to religious divisions and other reasons, they turned against each other. It must be said that "the same roots and common ancestors are based on blood, and the beliefs are separate."
The war against which the film is directed, like all wars in the world, is a conflict of interest. "The world is bustling for the benefit of the coming, and the world's hustle and bustle is for the benefit of the future." Small disputes over interests may only lead to quarrels, and large disputes may lead to large-scale wars involving millions of people. If we say that the source of the Opium War may be commercial interests and money; then, the Bosnian War was largely caused by ethnic and religious disputes. The reason for the disputes between these former friends and neighbors may not be purely ethnic and religious conflicts. After all, multi-ethnic and multi-religion have always existed here, but past history has proved that there can be peace here. "In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the intersection of different civilizations has a long history, and the interference of major powers has also existed for a long time. Even so, the three ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina have lived in harmony for a long time, such as in the period of the Southern Federation. Why are the three major ethnic groups fighting like this? In various interpretations, I pay more attention to the view that a few politicians in the three major ethnic groups constantly refresh their nationalisms for their own selfish interests. If the bargaining between them fails to achieve their goals , the blood, property, and lives of the people become their bets." Nation and religion are just the tools used by those in high positions to compete for power and profit.
Economic conflicts are still easy to ease, and once ethnic and religious conflicts are deliberately provoked, it seems difficult to resolve—economic interests are tangible, but the concept of religious ethnicity is intangible. Adjustable. The Bosnia and Herzegovina war was obviously a civil war, and the director also satirized the meaninglessness of this kind of war through the mouth of the old man: "I am a Croat, my wife is a Serb, and there was no difference before the war. Now, it's stupid. ." A stupid word, containing more than irony. As a Niš, the director saw his hometown in the smoke of gunpowder, from belonging to Yugoslavia to belonging to Serbia, but the name of the country was changed, but behind it, hundreds of thousands of people died innocently.
Fourth, the tail
·I have heard of the Bosnia and Herzegovina war before, just as I have heard of the Iran-Iraq war and the Afghan war. They happened all around us, even before they belonged to pure history - they happened after the birth of most people in the world today, and many survivors of these wars can still clearly tell the course of the war, the war was in around us. The director made this anti-war film based on his own personal experience, and we who have never experienced war, in a peaceful environment, should never have the kind of "I would rather find a war, where I can know what I'm fighting for" thinking. Humanity should never desire war.
·The director later went to the United States. Compared with the fact that three ethnic groups and three religions in Bosnia and Herzegovina can trigger wars, the United States, a country composed of multi-ethnic and non-believing people, obviously shows her strong tolerance. But even in a country like the United States that tolerates all races and beliefs, conflicts caused by disputes over religion still often occur. How to alleviate or even resolve such contradictions may be an unsolvable problem. Great harmony in the world is such a great and distant pursuit.
In the beginning, Josh Hua said that even bad people have God in their hearts. In the years that followed, he was also considered a "bad guy". But what is the standard for judging good or bad? Josh Hua thought he hated Muslims, but he killed Goren for a Muslim child. The native Serbs represented by Goren, who should have resolutely protected their own people, still beat and kicked their neighbor Vera. Vera's father threw her out because her daughter "lost the face of the family" and planned to kill her... The origin of all these seemingly contradictory behaviors is the struggle between religion and national interests, or the good and evil in the hearts of mankind struggle results? In the end, it was the baby girl who saved Josh Hua, or was it the kindness and love in his heart?
·Maxim is a pianist who has experienced the Croatian war. His "Croatian Rhapsody" is one of my favorite pieces. Because I don't understand music, when I listened to it for the first time, I only felt that it expressed very strong emotions, and it was a soulful song. Later, I checked the background of its creation. It was the Croatian War, a war between Croats and Serbs caused by ethnic confrontation. After listening to the melody of this song, I can't help but fall into sadness. In the movie "The Savior", the lullaby sung by the young mother for her newborn baby, a song that should be an ordinary mother in peacetime to coax her child to rest peacefully, but also revealed endless love in wartime with sadness.
