When Kusturica wants to talk about love, extreme romance and magical love mixed with human choices are bound to be his tasks. Lao Ku's use of elements in a tangled love story continues his usual style, politics, war, freedom, unrestrained, surreal, and magical, which makes this film so unique and powerful. It is rare for Lao Ku to spend nearly half of the film's time depicting the love between the two, and he did such a good job, so touching people's hearts, we can only say that Lao Ku is indeed a genius...
The beginning of the film is a paradise, a railway runs through the town, flocks of sheep dot the grassland, and a lovelorn donkey stands on the rails to commit suicide, but the railway has not yet opened to traffic... Lao Ku's sense of humor is really unique. The bearded postman stood on the rail car and walked along the road. He saw a hatched chick in the yard of a villager's house. He said with relief: "Life is a miracle!" But then he saw a chicken in the villager's house. Two brown bears were killed, and the host died on the ceiling. He immediately found the protagonist, the Serbian engineer Luca, who was playing the orchestra at the ball. Luca came to live in this small town in the mountains of Bosnia with his opera-obsessed and mentally ill wife and son who dreamed of becoming a football player in order to build a tourist railway line. The postman told Luca that the bears in Croatia had escaped here and killed the people here. Obviously, this is a hint that the war is about to start. Lao Ku likes animals as much as he likes the gypsy people. Most of the works have a lot of scenes and scenes of animals, such as the bombed zoo in "Underground" and the chimpanzee who broke the lie. The turkey transformed into an angel in "Song of the Wanderer".

The next day Luca sent off his enlisted son, but when he got home at night, he saw the news about the outbreak of the war on TV... Luca plans to exchange Sabah for his son, but ends up developing a strong love with Sabah. Sabaha appeared as a nurse in the first half of the movie and fell in love at first sight with Luca, who took his wife to see a doctor. The dream-like footage of two people lying on a hospital bed and slithering through the hospital is still fresh in my memory. The second half of the film is almost all about the romantic love life between the two, with the two chatting and then making love in a room that is constantly bombarded and vibrated. Luca was angry that Sabaha didn't write an exchange letter to the local government, but after a while he involuntarily fell into physical pleasure with Sabaha. Under the nourishment of love, Luca has even forgotten the fate of his son... Sabah is so beautiful, unrestrained, casual, free and easy, I think Lao Ku deliberately injected the blood of gypsy into this beautiful woman . The two of them take care of each other, support each other, and depend on each other for life. The two of them lie on the bed and fly into the air, flying over mountains and rivers, over grasslands, and over ice and snow. The surreal scenes are beautiful and romantic. It was not until Luka's elopement wife came back that the dreamy life was brought back to the cold reality. Luca stopped his wife from beating her lover and ran away with her lover. But was asked by the officer to exchange Sabah for his son, Luca refused the exchange. Love is a miracle, and the dreamy love that Lao Ku used to create in the second half allows Luca to give up everything for it. But the reality is that Sabaha was shot and injured, lying on a stretcher and exchanged with his son. Luca's eyes never looked at the oncoming son, but at the distant lover... Luca symbolically hugged his son, who refused to be interviewed by reporters. A family of three reunited under the same roof. But love is a miracle, and when a miracle has happened, it will no longer be accustomed to being plain. Luca lay on the open railway tracks, closed his eyes and waited for death, but was blocked by the donkey that "stands on the tracks" because of his lovelorn... Life is a miracle, two lovelorn animals meet at this moment, love is a miracle, Luca appears in the final picture with his true love Sabaha riding a lovelorn donkey... In the context of war, so Cruel, tangled, and utterly romantic love stories are rare. In particular, after Lao Ku added a gypsy character and temperament to the character, the optimism and fearless quality of the character in a depressed and fearful environment made the story more magical. Often the flowers that bloom in the ruins are more moving.
