real war movie man romance
This war movie is two hours long, and it is magnificent. The 2D movie makes me see the feeling of 3D. I can't help but admire Emmerich's control over such a big scene, the shock is over (let's blow it first)
However, although some details in the film are only skipped, they have a strong history in history, have you noticed?
(Because I couldn't find the source of the high-definition film, I had to find a small pirated website to take screenshots silently after returning from the cinema)
1. Discord
The feud between the Japanese navy and army has a long history. During the Meiji Restoration, the main force of the restoration was the Satsuma domain and the Choshu domain. The new Japanese army was also built on the basis of the armies of these two domains. Satsuma became the navy and Changshu became the army. In the early days of the Meiji Restoration, Japan had no parliament and no constitution. It was entirely a feudal lord politics. Therefore, Satsuma and Changzhou supported their troops and controlled the political situation in Japan, forming two major factions.
Since both the navy and the army have to consume resources, the two factions competed fiercely for strategic resources such as steel and oil, which lasted until the end of World War II.
The struggle between the two factions is not the focus of the film, but due to the lack of cooperation and constant fighting, it is hard to say that this was not one of the important reasons for Japan's defeat.
2. Iron bar torpedo MK-14
In the early days of the Pacific War, the MK14 torpedo that had just been put into use immediately exposed many problems. It either exploded early, or did not make a sound at all, or even plunged into the hull and stopped moving. During the first 18 months of the United States' entry into the war, the dud rate of the MK14 torpedoes equipped by Navy submarines was as high as 70 percent. He once created the "record" that 15 torpedoes could not sink a tanker.
Later, after the MK14 torpedo improved the depth control device and replaced the old-fashioned but reliable trigger fuze, the record of this torpedo went up immediately, and finally became the killer of Japanese ships. As for the magnetic induction fuze, it was only after the end of World War II that it gradually matured.
It is worth mentioning in the movie that the multiple torpedo attacks all failed. The airborne torpedoes did not detonate, but the Nautilus's torpedoes were evaded. None of the U.S. torpedoes exploded, and the black U.S. torpedoes reached a certain level. However, in the end, the Japanese used torpedoes from the sinking Chicheng.
3. Leading Party "Lan"
On June 5, 1942, Arashi's 4th Destroyer Division was responsible for escorting Nagumo Chuichi's mobile formation. In the morning, the expulsion formation spotted a U.S. submarine USS Nautilus (SS-168), and Lan immediately stepped forward to attack it. However, when the ship was chasing the enemy submarine, it did not know that its main formation had turned its course. Lan continued to pursue Nautilus until it lost its combat effectiveness, and the captain then ordered to stop the pursuit and merged with the main force of the fleet at full speed north. At this time, a dramatic scene happened. At that time, two teams of SBD bombers led by Major Wade McCluskey, who were struggling to find the main force of the Japanese aircraft carrier in the sky, found Lan's track at a glance. In this way, Arashi "brought" the bombing formation over Akagi and Kaga.
What is even more unfortunate is that at that time, the aircraft of the two aircraft carriers were undergoing intense refitting work, and they had no time to take into account air defense. After a round of bombing, Kaga was sunk, Akagi was severely damaged, and finally had to be punished by lightning.
4. Five Minutes of Chuichi Nagumo
How to evaluate Nagumo Chuichi's Five Minutes
Due to the author's lack of military theory, the results of Nagumo Chuichi's actions cannot be well deduced. Therefore, put the Zhihu link and let others comment.
But as far as the movie is concerned, the director deliberately added the line "5 min", which is worth pondering.
5.flagship
Although there are no subtitles in the source I found, but I have a very clear memory of this part.
The subtitle of the movie is roughly "Nagumo Chuichi's telegram was not sent from his aircraft carrier", and while watching the movie, I clearly heard a "flagship", that is, the flagship. Therefore, the meaning here should be that Nagumo Chuichi was transferred to the Nagara due to the sinking of the Akagi. The translation here as aircraft carrier may be to take care of most of the audience and prevent misunderstanding of the word flagship that has not appeared before.
6. Two anti-aircraft guns
The US military's 28mm quadruple anti-aircraft gun, known as the "Chicago Piano"
Since it was still in the early stages of the Pacific War, it should not have all been replaced with 40mm Bofors guns or 20mm Oerrie guns. Therefore, it is speculated that the U.S. ships are still using Chicago pianos, which can also confirm that the U.S. air defense cannot effectively defend against Japanese suicide attacks at this time.
The Japanese anti-aircraft gun here should be the 96-type 25mm anti-aircraft gun
As can be seen from its classic magazine feed, there are also many shots in the film.
In fact, what I want to say here is that the several anti-aircraft guns mentioned above are available in single-mounted, double-mounted, and (Japanese triple-mounted) quadruple-mounted styles. But in the movie, all U.S. troops use quads, and all Japanese use doubles. This should be specially set by the director in order to distinguish and prevent the audience from being confused.
7. (Cut footage) After Doolittle skydive
After Doolittle fell into China, there was also a conversation with China (possibly a guerrilla group). After the Chinese saw his parachute, they believed that he was the support from the United States and had a cordial and friendly exchange. However, I did not see this segment in the cinema, it may be the practical need of international politics.
The movie also shows the Japanese furiously retaliating against the Chinese civilians. In the anti-fascist war, we must not forget the spirit of the two countries sharing the same hatred and fighting the enemy together.
Epilogue
The thing that struck me the most about the film was that Best took back his comrade's Naval Academy ring.
It's hard to imagine how, after such chaotic scenes and intense fighting, American ambulance crews were able to recover their remains from the rubble and save their remains. The strong combat power of the US military is also understandable.
If the bravery of the Japanese army comes from allegiance to the emperor, then the bravery of the U.S. military comes from its strong confidence in its teammates behind it, its own logistics, and its strong national machinery.
The Japanese army can resist stubbornly on the wild island, eating plum rice. The greatness of the U.S. military lies in the fact that the Americans, who originally lived a well-off life and were well-fed and clothed, dared to fight hand-to-hand with the desperate Japanese on the islands. The kamikaze is not the only fearless charge, the U.S. military is no different.
Written works about war, whether films or novels, should maintain a just perspective. In this film, both the United States and Japan have human emotions, and there will be fear, helplessness, bravery, and justice in their hearts, so that they can be called equality. Because the damage of war is on both sides. What impresses me most is Liu Cixin's "Full Band Blocking Interference", in which the Soviet Union and Allied forces also have pain and sacrifice.
This kind of work can make people hate war.
