The bohemian and hysterical behind the poet

It is said that all poets are insane. After watching the movie "Total Eclipse Love", I agree with this statement.
Two poets of different ages and appearances - Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud, met in the same era, and then a thrilling homosexuality occurred, which is really unacceptable.
Although I have seen several gay films before, my eyes still cannot fully accept the love of these two people that subverts normal thinking.
But whether I accept it or not, the truth is clearly there. The sixteen-year-old country boy Rimbaud (played by Leonardo, who played well) is wild and wild, but only with a few poems and a very childish smile, the already old Verlaine is instantly unstoppable. In an instant, the sun is shining and the world is drunk! From then on, a ray of soul was attracted to Xiao Lanbo like a magnet, and from then on, he fell in love with him, not knowing whether the other party was a man or a woman, a demon or a human, in his eyes, in his body, it was all love, all infatuation. They have all the details that happen when a man and a woman fall in love. Tender hugs, wild sex, they have it all, and are intoxicated.
Two poets, two normal poets, all turned into madmen after meeting.
Two madmen, abandoned their homes and wandered together, like men and women who eloped. The film rarely sees how much time they spend writing poetry, only seeing them drinking, getting drunk, having sex and fighting.
Fights are mostly caused by jealousy.
Verlaine had a very nice home and wife. But since he was with Rimbaud, he lost his normal reason, and often beat his beautiful young wife after drinking. An abnormal extramarital affair turned a poet who was only sad and cared for his wife into a very annoying sleepy beast.
At this time, Verlaine had only Rimbaud in his heart. I believe that their love at this moment, although unusual, is sincere. Maybe normal people's eyes look at them, they will feel very awkward, and they will look sideways, but to them, it is extremely reasonable.
They love each other very much, and this kind of love is beyond the reach and incomprehension of ordinary people.
They are soul love. Looking down on them from this height, I respect them.
No matter what kind of love in the world, the love of the soul is the most important.
Verlaine and Rimbaud, because of the viscous emotions of this paragraph, are full of poetry, and the verse of "life elsewhere" is full of passion, like an irresistible waterfall, surging.
Perhaps it is because of the union of souls that those verses recognized by the world are born. It is said that since the death of the great poet Legunte de Lear in 1894, Verlaine has been promoted to the throne of "the king of poets". After Baudelaire, Verlaine, Rimbaud and Malame have pushed the French poetic art to a peak.
It was only after I got to know their background information that I found that their combination, although not as perfect as made in heaven, has signs of complementing each other. Verlaine is said to be a melancholy poet, and many of his poems are decadent and sad. Rimbaud is passionate and full of energy. When they meet, it may be rare to discover each other's "good points" at the same time and attract each other.
Rimbaud was young and informal, talking nonsense and even hurting people at the banquet, and he was despised by others. Verlaine was very happy when he saw it, like a treasure. Verlaine doesn't hold back, he cries when he says he's crying, there's no handsome man at all, Rimbaud doesn't dislike him, and he loves him to death, crying for him, laughing for him, jealous for him.
To be honest, I feel a little pity and feel sorry for Rimbaud. Seeing him, for some unknown reason, I suddenly thought of Dieyi in "Farewell My Concubine". However, the difference is that Dieyi is more affectionate and persistent than Rimbaud. Rimbaud is wilder than Dieyi and stronger than Dieyi. Dieyi and Xiaolou will not perform such a play- in the
bar, Verlaine asks Rimbaud whether he loves him or not. Rimbaud said: "Put your hand on the table." Then he stabbed his palm with a knife (somewhat puzzled, expressing love?). After Rimbaud's death. The down-and-out Verlaine saw the vision of the young Rimbaud in the bar again. He asked, "Do you love me?" Rimbaud still asked him to put his palm on the table, then, leaned his head down and kissed his palm tenderly...
This hatred is endless, this love is endless, and it will never end.
Rimbaud is always the love in his heart.
Rimbaud certainly loved Verlaine, but when he saw Verlaine's hesitation, he immediately showed a strong side (I couldn't help but feel a little happy). He decided to leave Verlaine forever. He could not bear Verlaine's reconciliation with his wife. He is both domineering and sober.
However, although Verlaine was determined to return home at this time, he was still reluctant to part with Rimbaud. So when Rimbaud was determined to leave him, Verlaine shot and almost killed his beloved Rimbaud.
At this point, the plot is coming to an end. Verlaine went to court for shooting wounds and was sentenced to two years in prison.
Verlaine in court embarrassed my eyes, and I embarrassed him. He was forced to undress for a doctor to check for homosexuality, and the dignity of a poet was instantly wiped out.
However, in his heart, this is not the saddest, the saddest is still Rimbaud's departure, which caused him to fall into uncontrollable pain: "I was crying in my heart, and it rained down on the streets. What kind of trouble is it?"
At the end of the film, the two meet again, but the relationship has ended, and a somewhat thrilling story has come to an end. The lovable, passionate, bohemian genius Rimbaud, after subverting Verlaine's life with a cynical attitude, finally left Verlaine and continued his creation until he died of gangrene at the age of 37.
Two people who originally pursued freedom, happiness, and happiness ended up with endless disappointment:
"I was thinking in prison, how happy can we be? Happiness is easy, the easiest thing in the world, why isn't it? Realized?" (Verlaine)
Perhaps for people in this world, happiness and joy are always only temporary. The difference between Rimbaud and Verlaine is that in their lifetimes, they were presumptuous, dissolute, and indulgent, and they may have thought that their soul and flesh were united once. This may be the most meaningful moment in their lives.

Total Eclipse quotes

  • [first lines]

Paul Verlaine: Sometimes he speaks in a kind of tender dialect of the death which causes repentence, of the unhappy men who certainly exist, of painful tasks and heartrending departures. In the hovels where we got drunk he wept looking at those who surrounded us, the cattle of poverty. He lifted up drunks in the black streets. He had the pity a bad mother has for small children. He moved with the grace of a little girl at catechism. He pretended to know about everything, business, art, medicine. I followed him, I had to!

  • [last lines]

Arthur Rimbaud: I've found it. What? Eternity. It's the sun mingled with the sea.
