See also dual personality. Unfortunately, the split was not successful.

I've been addicted to thriller and horror movies lately. But this film seems to be different.
First, the film is open and candid about Brooks' split personality. Marshall in the rearview mirror.
Having said that, I have to express my dissatisfaction. This Marshall setting is indeed indispensable, and it is precisely this that fails. The director relied too much on using this character to embody the duality of Brooks, but it actually backfired, and I increasingly saw them as two separate characters rather than two sides of one person.
Moreover, the movie actually did not really separate the concept of "two sides", especially in the matter of murder.
In my opinion, Brooks is a rational plan, processing the corpse emotionally, so as to obtain pleasure, and this pleasure even tends to be a kind of awareness of artistic pursuit. And Marshall is not even emotional, the pleasure he gets from killing is more inclined to the primitive animalistic desire for blood.
Compared to Brooks, Marshall is more cowardly. When he sees Brooks's casualness when he sees the furious expression on his face when the curtains are not drawn, it can be seen that Marshall is afraid of leaving the privileged living environment. This makes me wonder, because in fact, Brooks' psychology is much stronger than Marshall's, but why is every time he murders Marshall's inducement? However, it is your own choice that is not better.
If Brooks seeks redemption because his conscience is condemned, then why is he still dominant in the killing process, a position that should obviously be better for the evil side of Marshall?
Brooks turned to God for salvation: My god, grant me the serenity to accept what I cannot change. Please give me the courage to change what I can. And give me the wisdom to tell the difference between the two.
However, in my opinion, Marshall is just a clown who just keeps using vicious tone to cover up his guilty conscience.
Brooks, is the real devil. For him, killing is more akin to an act of enlightenment.
If Marshall did not know it was a demon, Brooks knew it was a demon. Therefore, his mental journey became more painful and contradictory. Therefore, he needs to use God to interrogate and identify his own desires and hearts.
On the other hand, Brooks' superior life background in reality gives Marshall more reason to be vain and arrogant.
Of course, in my opinion, there is still an element of comedy in it. That's what the policewoman's setting is.
The first funny thing is her marriage. Blackmailed by young husband. Her husband cheated on her outside, but asked her to pay a large amount of youth loss. It was already annoying enough, but the boss even intervened and became her killer: How did you handle the divorce?
On the issue of marriage, she is a typical self-inflicted sin and cannot live.
The second is her origin. There is a rich father, but unfortunately the father dislikes this daughter very much. It turns out that the problem is actually gender. Daring Americans are also sexist. Strange that there is no one-child policy in the United States, right? If the regeneration is not over, what is the purpose of being a daughter with all the excitement of Nisuke? A daughter's family, life to stimulate become a Berserker.
And the way to prove I'm strong is to be a policeman. Not that it's wrong. It just feels too similar. And women who are too strong are often disgusting, but they are disgusting. At least disgust me.
All in all, the movie is okay, rather refined. The way of description is tepid, there are no bloody scenes and too weird atmosphere, and the actors are actually relatively big names, but the film is very low-key. That's good, but I've always been resistant to commercial films that are buzzing with gongs and drums.

Mr. Brooks quotes

  • Marshall: For all the taxes we pay, you'd think they'd make it more difficult to hack into the police personnel file.

  • Mr. Earl Brooks: Finding someone you think would be fun to kill is a bit like, well it's a bit like falling in love. You meet a lot of candidates, and you like some of them, and they're nice. But they're not right. And that special one comes along, and your heart beats faster, and you know that's the one.
