His rudeness doesn't seem to be too much, he is just the person who persuades the fight in the bar, ignores all the people around him who are immersed in the music, and the person who keeps tapping on the bar with his fingers. At the same time his own life is chaotic, and I mean his private life - with his partner - the wife of the man who Thomas repeatedly lied to for his swindle - and even with his fiancee who killed his father's enemy. And these, I think, are prepared for the real heroine of the film - Miao Ling.
The image of mother in the film has not appeared fully, and Miao Ling is a continuation of this image. The first is her identity, and she can be regarded as a pianist, at least 2 years later. Same with Thomas' mother. In the same way, as his piano teacher, although she talks like ducks, she shows majesty and educates him. That's why the relationship between them is such a relationship. And in the end he became her agent, is it also a manifestation of his own view of his father's prejudice against his mother?
Regarding the end, the director later arranged for the enemy to meet. In fact, if Thomas is really satisfied with his current life, then the Russians can be regarded as his benefactors.
