"Ice Storm" is said to be Ang Lee's most satisfying work, and the core theme of concern is the emotional crisis of middle-class families in the United States. This topic has always been of interest to me. At the beginning of the film, a cartoon of the "Super Four" was inserted, borrowing the concept of an anti-material gun to describe the family relationship: the more intimate, the more hurt each other. The beginning alone is already very exciting.
The narrative style of the entire film is still very Ang Lee: gentle, delicate, and intriguing in details. The image processing of natural scenery is particularly excellent. The trees, sky, and roads appearing in the film are all integrated with the theme of the film.
The story unfolds in parallel with three clues: the male owner is busy cheating with the female neighbor, the son wants to date the most beautiful girl in the school, the daughter wanders between the two sons in the neighbor's house, and the youth hormones in the body are not tied. Boat. The hostess looked at this crisis-ridden family and was on the verge of collapse.
When watching the disc, one of the funny things is that I can't tell who the boys in the film are, and I always feel that they all look alike. After reading it, I found that there were actually the masters of "The Lord of the Rings" and "Spider-Man" who were later famous! So unexpected. Of course, they were not yet famous at the time. Director Ang Lee's vision for selecting people has been praised unanimously:-)
I have seen a "Infidelity" before, starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. The theme is also similar, but it is relatively simple, that is, a sweet life Having an affair, there is no background of the times before and after the Vietnam War and the Watergate incident shown in "Ice Storm". The film is extremely boring, so lacking in imagination and creativity, that I'm not interested in it. In comparison, "Ice Storm" has a darker tone - the times are so bad, how can personal struggles be better, but, after nearly two hours of film, it doesn't seem boring at all.
Once again, it is more important to say a story than to say a story.
