The Viewer's Journey to the Garden of Eden

The beginning of "My Father and Mother" is a little depressing. The vast whiteness seems to have prepared a unique memorial for my father's hasty death. Everyone seems ill-prepared for such a parting. Only the mother swallowed the tears of grief and insisted on carrying her father back from the county town several miles away, insisting on weaving a coffin for her father by herself. Looking at the thin and old mother in front of the loom, holding the yellowed wedding photos of her father and mother in her hand, finally, memories came one after another.
When you have become accustomed to the small blue sky between the high-rise buildings in the city, the golden yellow that cannot be seen at a glance will be particularly attractive. Small bungalows, stretches of wheat fields, curling smoke, and crisp bells all the way through the carriage. . . Father and mother met. The mother has the simplicity and beauty unique to rural girls. The little red padded jacket is the lingering scenery in my father's eyes. And the sound of the father's reading is like that bell tinkling on the mother's heart. In my mother's mind, it was the most beautiful. This is a delicate emotion that belongs only to the father and the mother, floating on the country road.
The mother is reserved, and the girl's mind is left in the meals that may be eaten by her father, by the well next to the primary school, and on the country road that "ran into by chance".
The film uses a lot of stills, making it all beautiful like a hand-painted oil painting. Just like the scene when my father went to my mother's house for a pie meal for the first time, many years later my father could think of my mother who was standing at the door at that time. In my father's eyes, my mother was a painting. Quiet makes people can clearly hear the true voice of the heart.
In this high-profile era of love, how much romance has fascinated our eyes, and after a long time, it is like a fleeting moment and disappears. How much persistence and precious emotions do we have?
But in that backward and poor age, there is the purity and truth that we have buried deep in our hearts. Love, family, teachers and students, silently immersed our eyes.
Just to give my father a bowl of steamed dumplings stuffed with shiitake mushrooms, I ran across the long mountain road. When I fell, I watched the carriage carrying my father drift away, and finally tears flowed from the corner of my mother's eyes. There are countless fragility in life that cannot be afforded, but my mother chose to wait and be strong. A sentence "I will come back at the latest on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month" can withstand the oath of millions, and my mother will stick to it in her heart.
The blind old mother's heart is like a mirror, her love for her daughter makes her refuse to accept her daughter's love, and her love for her daughter makes her try to believe in this silent love. Repairing the broken bowl is actually the old mother's beautiful love for her daughter.
Father and mother have a happy ending. The father never left the mother's side. Book teaching is forty years. Funerals are meant to cost money. But everyone who came did not want money, they were all students of their father. . .
At the end of the film, the son stepped onto the podium in place of his father, reading the poems his father once read. At this time, the pictures of the young mother and the elderly mother trotting all the way alternately appeared. Until this moment, the mother's love for the father is the ultimate. This is the perfect ending to my mother's life.
Directed by Zhang Yimou and won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2000, the picturesque scenery and the simple and sincere feelings of the people in the film seem to bring us into a pure Eden. There is no filth, no disputes, there is only the most real and primitive instinct of people to treat life and the same kind, love, care, growth, and endless life.
I envy people and life like that. The film is not long, it is a journey in the viewer's heart. Just like in the film, my mother accompanied my father to finish the road for the last time, and we also accompanied ourselves to every corner of our hearts. Beauty and love, the theme that will never fade away, leave this film, where should we continue?
