Big City, Small Love

If your associative ability is not too strong, you will definitely remember Wang Leehom's song of the same name and Liming and Faye Wong's movie "Small Things in a Big City", just like me.
If you are neither profound nor thorough, after watching "Paris, I Love You", most of you will agree with these four words and the lightness and warmth it brings, just like me.
This short film collection as the opening film of "Cannes" in 2006, it is said that the earliest idea came from 2000, known as "20 world-renowned directors + 20 Paris stories". However, I counted carefully with my fingers and toes, and only 18 stories, plus the "big reunion" at the end, barely made it to 19. Perhaps, the remaining one was swallowed alive by the romantic Frenchman.
18th arrondissement, Montmartre. A lonely man got a parking space in the collision, "waiting for the rabbit", and finally enthusiastically rescued a single woman who fainted on the ground. Will there be love next?
5th arrondissement, by the Seine. Several young people made fun of the passing woman, but one of the boys kept silent and looked at the girl in the black turban not far away. She fell down, he went to help her, she went to the mosque, he went to the mosque again. The ghosts chased after her and waited for her. She came out with her grandfather, who carefully worded his words, greeting the old man, can Christians love Muslims?
4th arrondissement, Marais, famous fashion and gay district. He walked into the printing room, saw him, and started chattering, but he was silent. The former did not know that the latter did not understand French, but before leaving, he insisted on leaving his phone number. The latter pondered and seemed to understand the former's heart, grabbed his clothes, and chased out
District 1, the subway station. An American tourist who longed for the Mona Lisa was frantically "tortured" by a pair of young lovers, occasionally interspersed with the ridicule of an ignorant boy. In the end, they were all gone, leaving only him, dumbfounded, and the Mona Lisa postcards flying all over the floor.
District 13, Duli Garden, China Town. The French stylist who came to the door to sell, encountered a Chinese kung fu beauty. You don't know each other if you don't fight, but when you get to know each other, you become friends.
District 16. She is a new immigrant. In the early morning, she sent her children to kindergarten, sang a nursery rhyme, and took several buses to the city center. She works as a nanny in a middle-class family and sings the same nursery rhyme to the child who needs to be looked after. Looking out the window, she was a little lost.
12th arrondissement, Place de la Bastille. The man has an extramarital affair and decides to break up with his wife. He arranged the last lunch, and she was kept in the dark, but she cried and took out the diagnosis certificate of advanced leukemia. The man hides the secret and begins to take good care of his wife until the last moment of her life. After his wife's death, whenever he encounters a woman in red on the street, he will lose his mind and even want to hold him back, because she liked wearing red the most during her lifetime.
District 2, Victory Square. She lost her beloved son and was heartbroken. At midnight, the hallucination led her to the street, and her son said, "Mom, go back, Dad and sister are waiting for you." Then, he left with "Knight". She felt the warmth on her shoulders, it came from her husband.
7th arrondissement, Eiffel Tower. A clown who no one paid attention to, got love in the detention center, and soon, had a child. Of course, they need to give him more love to make him optimistic and strong in the face of other children's ridicule.
17th arrondissement, Monceau Park. They embraced and talked intimately, and both passers-by and I thought it was a year-long love. However, I heard a voice: "Dad." It turned out that a playful daughter was begging her father to help take care of the son in the infant. He watched her leave, turned to the stroller, puffed and muttered to himself...
District 3, Red Kids Square. She came to Paris to act and bought LSD from him, and they were all a little distraught. However, that night, they missed it.
District 19, Festival Plaza. Originally from Africa, he oversaw the underground garage, met and fell in love with her. He even lost his job in order to meet her again. Finally, they finally meet again. However, he has been taken away by street gangsters.
District 9, Pigalle. They are husband and wife with very different views on sex and love. As a result, naturally they broke up. But in fact, it is in this way that they have been together for decades. spouse? opponent? partner? Both!
District 8, Madeleine. On a street corner in Paris under the moonlit night, he met a vampire and fell in love with him. He lured her into transforming himself, and then they bit each other, making the blood mingle in each other's bodies.
20th arrondissement, Père Lachaise cemetery. Her soon-to-be-married partner comes to Paris for a vacation in pursuit of romance and kisses Wilde's famous lip print, sparking a seemingly irreconcilable quarrel. However, somewhere, Wilde's verses that he blurted out made her burst into laughter.
10th arrondissement, Saint-Denis. Blind, he caught her with his ears. They are in love, they live together, they are estranged. Eventually, they broke up. However, she has become an actor as she wishes, he has also passed various language exams, and, with his heart, "sees" her appearance.
District 6, Latin Quarter. They are over old and have not yet divorced, but they have already embraced their new life. On the eve of the signing, in the cafe, due to the reluctance and unwillingness in my heart, the harmless lies gradually turned into criticism and even slander. So, just say goodbye. To love or not to love is not that simple.
District 14. She, from the United States, is middle-aged, bloated, and single, walking and narrating the Paris she feels. She was tired, sitting on a bench, eating a hamburger and looking at the couples around her, a little disappointed and a little longing.
At the end, several pictures are "fighting" and "wearing" together. It turned out that many people in the story passed by and even knew each other. Cities are big, but small. They live in Paris and love their own time and space.
The whole film, from beginning to end, conveys the theme of "communication" - different races, different beliefs, different nationalities, different ages, different genders. Just pick out a story, and it seems that it can be turned into an advertisement for a communication company. Although it brings together directors of different styles, it is beautiful - but it is synaesthesia. It seems that no one wants to expose the mediocrity, worldliness and darkness that there must be in fact. Therefore, to evaluate such a movie with a "tribute" color, you can't use it well or badly, you can only say: "If you have a chance, be sure to watch it."
Many people like the story of District 10, directed by Tom Tikway and starring Natalie Portman. It is fast-paced and powerful. It can be expressed in one word, "dazzling". (Tikway's "Lola Run" and "Perfume" both have this feature.) However, I prefer the stories of Districts 5 and 14. The director of the former is Gurinder Chadha, a middle-aged British woman of Indian descent who was born in Kenya. She has filmed "I Love Beckham". She has no particularly famous works. It is related to the background of growth; as for the latter, it is basically a journey of scenery and mood of a single self-guided tour. After seeing it, it makes people want to put down everything at hand, carry a bag and walk into the distance casually. The worst is the story of Area 13 directed by Du Kefeng. In order to express the taste of China deliberately, it is nondescript. In a good way, it is the pair of Balzac's hands that must be cut off by Rodin. It seems that he is more suitable to be a simple photographer.
Let's end with two lyrics of Wang Leehom -
"The quiet picture of the gray tiles on the roof/The lights are your beautiful face..."
No matter which city it is, it is worth staying. As long as there is love there.

This is my favorite tune. I watched it in one go that night, downloaded the original soundtrack, and couldn't sleep for a long time, which is rare for me.

Du Kefeng's section is really bad.

Paris, je t'aime quotes

  • Zarka: You're even worse at this than getting girls.

Franois: My friends do that stuff, not me.

    Zarka: They're pathetic.

Franois: You have beautiful hair, why do you have to cover it up?

Zarka: I don't have to. I choose to.

Franois: Too bad, 'cause you're so pretty.

Zarka: You mean I'm not beautiful in my hijab?

Franois: [laughs] That's not what I meant.

Zarka: You and your friends don't know shit about women. Why talk to them like that? When you can see they don't like it? If I want to look beautiful, I do it for me. When I wear this I feel part of a faith, an identity. I feel good. That's what beauty is. Tell that to your friends. Then maybe one day, they might even get laid.

  • Carol: Sometimes I think it would be nice to have someone, with whom to share this life.
