Let Ryan take your breath away

"Buried Alive" is a movie that completely exceeded my expectations. I thought it was just another "Sound Machine" or "Blocking the Phone Booth", but the horror and suffocation it created completely shocked me, starting from the first second of the film. At the last second, there was no chance to relax and breathe. I don’t know how much this spoiler will affect the viewing experience. At least I am completely manipulated by the director because I don’t know the ending. Therefore, I recommend avoiding relevant information as much as possible before watching the movie.

Before watching the movie, I was worried that the movie would adopt two parallel story lines, one is the trapped Ryan, and the other is the person who rescues him, because once such a movie, it is difficult to get rid of the mediocrity and clichés. Fortunately, the director chose a more adventurous and unsuccessful approach, and aimed the camera at the protagonist in the coffin from beginning to end.
The most successful part of the film is to make the audience immersive, which is different from "what would you do if it were you" in similar movies, but "how would you feel if it were you", which conveys the protagonist’s psychological feelings to It is extremely difficult for the audience in front of the screen, especially when the scene and the protagonist are single, but the director did it very successfully. The "degree of suffocation" of the movie can be roughly divided into three incremental stages from two emergencies. In the first stage, the director's main solution is to let the actor and the audience understand the current situation, where he is, why he is here, and what to do to escape. At this stage, Ryan used his cell phone to call everyone he could think of, 911, FBI, the company that hired him, his wife who never answered the phone, the mother of dementia, the hostage rescue team in Iraq, and of course kidnapped him. Terrorists. After all the questions were answered, he began to wait. During this time, he heard strange and weird sounds outside the coffin, but because he suffered from anxiety, he was prone to shortness of breath, and the oxygen in the coffin was declining, so he ate pants later. The sedative in the bag fell asleep. And the first sudden incident caused by that strange sound brought the audience's emotions to another level of suffocation pleasure. In the second stage, the film begins to expose the theme that the director wants to convey, that is, how insignificant the life and death of an individual is in the face of collective interests. In this segment, Ryan is abandoned by the company he works for, and is repeatedly said to rescue his country. The machine betrayed and fell into complete despair and even attempted suicide. The second unexpected event that occurred at this time completely pushed the urgency of the film to a climax, and the countdown to death also escalated. In the final stage, the director created a number of anti-climaxes, each time trying to push the audience's tense and suppressed emotions to the commanding heights. In the end, the shocking ending of no more than 120 seconds completely took the breath of all the audience away by using the technique of being unable to distinguish the source of the voice-over.
Let’s stop at the plot. From the beginning to the end, the audience can experience Ryan's emotions, and even feel that the oxygen in the theater is gradually being taken away by Ryan on the big screen and they feel more and more suffocated.

"Buried alive" is one of the best suspense thrillers I have watched in recent years. It almost perfectly manipulates the emotions of the audience. In addition to the tightness and suffocation, I was even touched by Ryan's performance twice in the plot. The photography and editing of the film in a small space is even more brilliant. Ryan's one-man show is unforgettable, and the soundtrack is just right. There are many shortcomings if you want to choose. For example, some of the dialogue design is too exaggerated and out of reality. In addition, I have a lot of criticism about the plot setting of one of the emergencies. Although the scene is still very scary, it appears after the plot. Some deliberate and contrived. Of course, these are what the director must give up when he chooses this way of adventure, so it can be said to be flawless.

PS: The subtitles at the beginning of the movie are awesome! ! !
