What I want to say is if mom doesn't love you.
The little boy in the film is destined to fail his mother's love. Yellow hair, blue eyes, that's some evidence, so there's no escape.
The little boy has an eye problem, so the world he sees should be weird, and I don't know what he's seeing when he calls out mom and dad in those ammo holes. Or nothing, just fun, but gradually when he can't find his mother, he starts to panic.
