below expectations

Marie-Antoinette is a tragic legend with a lot to tell, and I'm looking forward to it when it's on the screen, and Kirsten Dunst is also a personal favorite actor. However, in the two hours of watching the movie, the expectations dropped little by little, although it did not sink to the bottom, but it was almost wiped out.
Overall, the script is like a running account, and all the plots are fairly evenly distributed. If it weren't for Kirsten Dunst's performance from time to time, it would be like chewing wax for those who are familiar with the queen. Several of Antoinette's well-known and controversial features and events, such as stunning beauty, extreme luxury, and love with a Swede, all float by, forgetting is forgetting. And the French Revolution, which should have been the final climax, is obviously not enough. I don't know whether it is Sofia Coppola's lack of grasp, or it is all so simple and empty from the perspective of the protagonist.
Another flaw is the soundtrack. Maybe it's an OST of average quality when taken out alone, but it's really abrupt when a few songs are placed in the picture of the French court. Couldn't American audiences accept the soothing French chanson, the elegant court tune? If not, at least write some melody that is in harmony with the tone of the film. It is really hard for me to understand the starting point of the composer. From the beginning of the film, I was shocked, and even wondered if I had seen the wrong film, and if I listened to it one after another, I had to feel a sense of rejection.
But fortunately, this film will not be classified as a bad film by me, at least the tones of fresh oil paintings, the fair and pink skin of the women, the delicate and elegant dresses, and the gorgeous scenery of the Palace of Versailles are still very pleasing. Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman's performances are very good, from the innocent to the empty and lonely Mary, and the incompetent and innocent Louis from beginning to end. The shivering little princess who was waiting to change in front of a daughter-in-law, and the queen who applauded alone in the opera house but no one responded, are my two favorite scenes in this play.
One more thing to say, the bedroom at the end of the film may be smashed by the people, but it is not necessary. Although it's tacky, I would rather end up with the Bodhi Avenue in the sunset, and the beautiful face of the queen who bid farewell to it.

With such a level of film, it can only be guessed that Cannonero wants to hold a show to enter the high-end clothing market, but he can't think of a way to transform. So I found an acquaintance Coppola: Hey, you can set up a stage for me again. Old Ke listened, hey! It happens that Sophia wants to make a historical drama to play in depth, or you two will add up. Anyway, just for fun, the money is just swiped from my account! So a palace-themed fashion show was born, with occasional stories to set it off

  • Duchesse de Polignac: [to Léonard] I love your hair. What's going on there?

    Léonard: Everything!

  • Princesse de Lamballe: I would have told him exactly what to do with it.

Duchesse de Polignac: Oh? What's that, darling?

Princesse de Lamballe: Put it back in his trousers where it belongs.

Duchesse de Polignac: Lamballe, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a prude.
