Both sides are unhappy

One heroine, two stories, one tragedy, one comedy.

The DVD cover is quite ingenious, with pure white on the left and dark gray on the right. Occupying the top half of the cover is a face, with a healthy face on the left, blond and red lips; on the right, a pale face with a single tear, and a pool of tears on the bottom of the cover. The title of the film, Melinda and Melinda, is in the center of the cover, with a straight black font on the left and a curly white font on the right, alluding to the fate of the heroine. The name of the female lead Radha Mitchell also crosses the middle, and the other lead actors of the two stories belong to both sides.

Female lead Radha Mitchell has a good performance in both Melinda's lives, and the transition is easy. I just watched Man On Fire, which she also starred in, and I'm still very impressed. The director's cut between the two stories is also just right, balancing the two stories well. However, due to space limitations, neither of the two stories can be fully developed. As a result, the tragedy is not tragic, the comedy is not pleasant, and both sides are not flattering, resulting in the film's theme is not convincing.

The theme of the film is nothing more than that it should be faced positively, while lowering expectations and not paying too much attention to the cliché of the result. ("Life can be a comedy or a tragedy, it all depends on how you look at it. ", "When you less hope it, it just happened like a bang.) In fact, everyone knows the truth, the key is Whether it can be expressed in a novel and touching way, the director has only achieved the former.

Melinda and Melinda quotes

  • Ellis Moonsong: Why do things that start off so promisingly always have a way of ending up in the dump?

    Melinda: Not for everyone.

Ellis Moonsong: Well, for anybody with any imagination. You know, life is manageable enough if you keep your hopes modest. The minute you allow yourself sweet dreams you run the risk of them crashing down.

  • Melinda: You're the piano player.

Ellis Moonsong: Not any more. I'm on a break. A mysterious stranger has, uh, temporarily taken over, and I must say she plays beautifully. Hey, are your eyes misting over?

Melinda: The song... it's meaningful to me. It was playing the night I met someone.

Ellis Moonsong: So, are they tears of sorrow or tears of joy?

Melinda: Well, aren't they the same tears?

    Ellis Moonsong: Yeah.
