I've seen two versions of this musical changed movie, the 2004 version is better. Phantom of Opera is a musical that is closer to an opera, or an opera produced in the United States, in which the music is widely circulated. When I was in China, I often heard it, such as the song Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensations. When I was in Nanjing, some music stations often played. The music is grand and soul-stirring, and the scene in the new version is more in line with it and the extravaganza personality of the musical's inception. The music of the old version is the same, but the visuals are a bit thinner, and some unnecessary gimmicks are added to make the tragic effect a bit discounted.
Phantom of Opera is a bit like Leslie Cheung's "Singing at Midnight". The phantom in the opera house is both good and evil, a musical genius and a possessive monster living in the dark. His creativity is as destructive as he is. In musicals, most of them are light and humorous, and it is rare to have such a heavy tragedy. However, as Mr. Zhu Guangqian said, the real tragedy is not responsible for providing answers.
