The Purple Rose of Cairo

Ok, now I've seen two movies about the projected characters in a theater come to life and cause turmoil to the real world. The first one is Wojciech Marczewski's Escape from the Cinema Liberty, and the other is Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo . Escape.. is a film about censorship in Porland, in which a censor is an exhausted and sleepy fat guy, who considered censoring is no different from artistic creation. In fact, he was once a literary youth, so I believe his pretext is just a kind of self-consoling. One day, a movie being shown in a theater suddenly become an anarchy, for the characters began to rebel and refused to continue their roles in the movie. I remenber that the censor at last walked into the film and was brought to account his omission and revision of many characters and plots in different movies, his years long effort. But I forgot there is a direct reference to Allen's The Purple Rose... It was said that a critic knew the situation was analogous to the American director's film so he brought that film to the officials. Since I can think of not a single frame of this plot, when I was viewing The Purple Rose.. I started to wonder whether one of the two are borrowing the other's idea, and who will be the follower. But now I know their relationship. It's fair enough when there is a reference.I started to wonder whether one of the two are borrowing the other's idea, and who will be the follower. The Purple Rose of Cairo quotes

  • Cecilia's Sister: The one that I liked is "Okay, America!"

Cecilia: Oh, yeah! I saw that twice. That was great! When she threatens to kill Lew Ayers.

Cecilia's Sister: I love Lew Ayers looks! Do you think he's married?

Cecilia: What do you mean married? Are you crazy? Yes, he's married to Ginger Rogers! God! They got married on a boat off the island of Catalina. They live in Beverly Hills and sometimes holiday in Spain. He used to be married to Lola Lane, but, Ginger's better for him. She's so lovely.

  • Cecilia: Ginger used to be married to Jack Culpepper, who I think took out Ruth Chatterton before she married George Brent.
