"Water" is the third film in Deepa Mehta's trilogy of elements (the first two being "Fire" and "Earth").

Set in 1930s India, the film tells the story of Chuya, an 8-year-old girl who has just become a widow.

Indians always like to make lively musicals. There are not many directors like Deepa Mehta who are willing to face reality in India, so they are especially precious~
India in Deepa Mehta's lens is very beautiful, but Hidden behind the beauty is the terrible ignorance and naked money
. The ugly faces of the men in the world are here at a glance, but behind the banner of religion are some dirty deals.

In India, the status of women is even lower than in China, everything is male supremacy, women have become their appendages,
so there is the sentence at the end of Di Di: I hope she can be a man in the next life.... .....

The plot, which has been calm all the time, suddenly becomes very touching at the end~ It is also considered a success

. The little girl who plays Chu Ya in the film is very happy and loving, making the little girl heartless and as if I feel like I understand something. The performance is very good.
In addition, the actress who plays Di Di is not the first heroine, but the performance without trace is still impressive.

This seems to be the only Asan piece I've ever seen where no one sings and dances... In the end, I'm very worried

The third part of Deepa Mehta's "Elements Trilogy" (Water). Much more mature than the previous two, but also more ornamental. Lisa Ray's beauty is of course needless to mention, the male protagonist is really handsome.

Water quotes

  • Kalyani: 'Learn to live like the lotus untouched by the filthy water it grows in.' Krishnaji said it in the Geeta

Narayana: Krishna was a god. Not everyone can live like the lotus flower.

    Kalyani: Yes, they can.

  • Shakuntala: Why are we widows sent here? There must be a reason for it.

Narayana: One less mouth to feed. Four saris saved, one bed, and a corner is saved in the family home. There is no other reason you are here. Disguised as religion, it's just about money.
